SC Apollo coach resigns
Two St.Cloud teams lose their coaches in same year.....Any thoughts on who the replacements could be?

apollo's coach did nothing for the program....they stink, and that is the bottom line...he might be a caring nice guy, but their team was horrendous and some of the parents (as well as tech) sound like a a handful that are also keeping these programs from being successful. It is time for Apollo and Tech to combine teams and have one St. Cloud team.

Why combine now?
The schools themselves will combine in the near future -- five years or so. The district is already talking about replacing Tech with a new building. My thought is they will build a new school, merge the two existing and shut down both buildings or they could do a big rennovation on Apollo, combine them and shut Tech down.
It will happen as enrollment continues to decline and the district continues to have nitwits operating the school system.

Love it
how about 4 the kids. I love it when parents, no matter what StCloud school, get on here and bash coaches. What, with their vast know ledge of how tho play the game and all and certainly how to coach the game. Not quite sure who they could get to come in and coach inthis town. If its a former Youth coach, beware, the stakes are much higher now and there might be more at stake. The same parents you were have drinks with at the hotels, on road trips, are now the same ones that will be the first to through you off and under the bus.
As far as Hommerding at Tech and Doughrty at Apollo or even Larson, for that matter. Were they ever given a real chance to do well? All the St Cloud Hockey "professionals" or parents, that have ZERO background or maybe never even played the game, always found a way to bash them, win lose or draw. How can you do well if you have one year of hardworking and talented kids? Ones that don't want to leave to pursue juniors or transfers? Guess you have to be a year after year state contender to be worth anything in this town.
I can tell you folks one thing though about the two former Apollo coaches. Not sure I ever heard anyone care more about program that didn't care for them back. All those guys put the kids first and winning second. Mostly from where I stood, because they couldn't often win.
Yup, pretty sure I'm dumber when I moved here to go to school and try to think i would learn hockey.

Dougherty got a full time teaching job in Fargo and thats why he left, thats the reason, Karna the assistant also got a full time teaching job and took that offer, both are great guys and I wish them all the best
Craig Larson will not be the new coach, he hasent been offered the spot and I doubt he will, hes a scout for the St.cloud Lumberjacks, he was never liked a head coach here anyways is what ive come to learn

Who Knows
Love4Hockey, not sure what you've heard or where you've heard them. I played intramurals at SCSU with guys that have played for him and they all thought he was a good coach. He was good to them. Course, they were good players too. I don't know him, so don't judge. these guys parents apparrently liked him too. Maybe your kid didn't get the ice time, thats why you don't think he'd be good. Looked like he started to turn things around before he left though. But you're right, maybe a flight risk too, if there's no teaching job available and a better Junior or head coaching job elsewhere comes available, he might leave too.
Maybe you and 4theparents should coach. Sounds like you know whats best anyways.

I know of Craig, but do not know him well. I just thought he would make a good replacement. I don't think to many coaches will be lining up to apply for this job. I do know the program has been down the past few years and the last few winning seasons were under Craig's coaching. That was before his top players (that he helped get to the next level) left high school early to play Juniors.

Nothing either for or against Craig's coaching but those players were getting to the next level regardless of Craig's "helping".redwhiteandblue wrote:deucereppin wrote:redwhiteandblue.....Im sure you know Craigy Boy well!

Curious though
Where I played hockey, in the cities, we had guys leave too. They couldn't do without developing at the high school level. So "Goldy", how did those guys ever make it to the next level, miss high school all together? I know at my school, guys left for their senior year, but never would've been able to before they played and got to the top of their game at high school hockey first. Those guys must have been pretty good too, but I got to think the coach at least had a part in them moving on.
Good point though.

Thats cool
I remember watching Grant at SCSU. Pationate guy and tough kid. Has he ever coached though? He was from Grand Rapids to, I think. He might be a good assistant for a year or two but with the parents there, he would need a bit more experience. From what I gather and the games i went to, they're a pretty intense bunch that don't really know hockey and his SCSU celebrity power might wear off when they don't see more W's on the score sheet.
Nice pick for early contender though.

Yeah he is from Grand Rapids, idk if hes ever considered coaching but he has a great passion for the game and im sure he would make a great coach too
every team has parents who dont like the coach, that never will change, but Grant could turn the program into a winner again with the right coaching staff with him, cause the players have the heart and they all wanna win
