North Branch gets a new coach
North Branch Area High School has selected Randy Gendreau as the hockey coach for the 2009-2010 season. Gendreau’s coaching background includes over 20 years of youth hockey through the Centennial Youth Hockey program along with several years of AAA summer hockey at the both the youth and high school levels of competition. This past season, Gendreau assisted at the varsity and junior varsity level for Chisago Lakes boys high school hockey. “I had the opportunity to assist with a very knowledgeable and gifted head coach in Cory McKinnon at Chisago Lakes High School. My decision to leave Chisago Lakes Area High School was very difficult to say the least,” said Gendreau.
Gendreau added that even though it will be a challenge to get North Branch boys varsity hockey to the next level he is very confident that his coaching philosophy, knowledge of the game and the ability to extract the very best from his players will produce a positive change in direction for Viking hockey. “I try to keep things very basic and simple. I never mention the word ‘winning’ throughout the course of the season. Preparation through high tempo, high energy practices is the key to success. Simply put you ‘practice how you play’. I have taught the basic fundamentals of hockey that include skating shooting, passing, body checking along with team systems for over 20 years.”
“I am very excited about the challenge that lies ahead,” said Gendreau about the upcoming hockey season. “Taking one practice, game, period and shift at a time by developing individual skills and implementing our teams systems, winning will take care of itself. I look forward to meeting each and every team member and hope they work hard at their game during the off season. I can’t wait to get started.”
Activities Director, Becky Leuer, commented that Gendreau will bring a new level of excitement, energy, and accountability to the North Branch hockey program. “He has a history of success and has coached at all levels. We think he will be a nice fit for our school and program.”

He is making some nice changes to the program already, including getting to know the players on a personal level, has recommended some great summer training, and has brought some major excitement to the North Branch area. Too bad there's no home ice

Looks like Randy might coach this NB team to a level never seen before in the program. I might have to take back my prediction of 3rd or 4th in the new Two Rivers Conference and say that they probably are the favorites.clhockeykid06 wrote:i can say that he is a great coach and puts players on the ice that he knows will do the job. being one of his former players, i wish he was comin back. he brings a lot of energy to the team

The NB Parents must be bored this summer. I see alot of posts about there team, some even stating the are state Tourney material.
Really ?? People... the new coach may be a great guy, but NB has not won 5 games in a season in how many years ?? lets try for that first. I like people being optomistic, but lets not get carried away.
