Bob Lundeen pulled together a nice "Minneapolis Novas" team that made it to the Stick It finals:

5 D1 Recruits wow + Vogl, Lundeen, Lacombe, Stenerson......! Nice group all around and Bob is a very good coach! This is a great event I wish there were a way that it didn't conflict with Phase III but as you look at schedules of events not sure where you could move it.

Hey Joe

I saw the Jr Whitecaps roster on the opening post. The Blues Tourney lists a Whitecaps gold and silver. Do you know the difference and who is on which?

Thank you!

I am guessing this is the Silver Team (they have silver jerseys) but I have not seen the Gold roster - I have heard some names so I think it will be a very good team similar to Silver. The Silver team is all 2010 excpet one 2011 so I am guessing the Gold will be mostly 2011 kids but not sure?

MN JR Whitecaps - Silver?
(this roster played at Shattuck in March - could have other additions or changes over the summer and many of these girls play on other area teams)
Ellie Gleason, Edina, D 2010
Christine Lacombe, Eden Prairie, D 2010
Maddie Marcotte, White Bear Lake, D 2010
Maggie Pendleton, Hill Murray, D 2010
Dani Scholzen, Blaine, D 2010
Chelsay Witwicke, Roseville, D 2010
Bethany Brausen, Roseville, F 2010
Corinne Buie, Edina, F 2010
Kayla Capistrant, Roseville, F 2010
Dana Gallop, Grand Rapids Greenway, F 2010
Cara Johnson, Hopkins, F 2010
Meghan Lorence, Irondale, F 2011
Gina McDonald, Irondale, F 2010
Jocie Slattery, Centennial, F 2010
Ashley Stenerson, Moorhead, F 2010
Kallie Billadeau, Hopkins, G 2010
Marah Sobczak, Stillwater, G 2010

The Silver Team is playing the following events and I am guessing the Gold Team will play the same schedule:
Schwan Blues Invite...5/14-17 @ Blaine-4/5 GAMES
Ice Cats Jamboree..6/19-21 @ Andover
Ice Cats Festival...7/25-26 @ Andover-3 GAMES
International Cup...7/30-Aug 2 @ Blaine-5 GAMES
Jr. Whitecaps Jamboree...August TBD -3 GAMES
NAHA...9/4-6 @ Burlington, VT- 6 GAMES

No Thoroughbreds this year? I wonder why? Didn't they attend last year? I know another team or two from Minnesota also attended. I've heard it's an important tournament for Minnesota girls to get east coast exposure. Do the Thoroughbreds have their 2009-2010 season schedule set?

I went last year with my daughter - I was stunned every D1 school had at least one coach and some two there - we don't have anything in MN to compare.

Thorughbreds weren't there last year and not sure if they have ever attended in the past? In 2008 the JR Whitecaps (silver), Ice Cats (Press), Walser and MN Crunch attended - none of them made the Championship round - Whitecaps finished one game out. Last year I think they only had a U19 Division and they had more teams maybe 24 at the U19 level.

Excuse me. I remember now, which I confirmed on the Thoroughbred site, they were at a tournament at Union College the same weekend.

That explains it - they were actual a week a part since Labor Day weekend fell early - end of August last year. I don't know maybe others do but I think Walser, Ice Cats and now recently the Jr Whitecaps have represented MN. I think a few Thoroughbreds may have been a part of one of those teams. Thoroughbreds have some very top players who could be on any of the teams going.

The Scrimmage Fest that was scheduled for this weekend with the JR Whitecaps and Ice Cats and others in Andover ended up taking a different format.....it became just a JR Whitecap function but had some great hockey.

Friday night both the Blue and Silver team had an intense 2 hour interactive practice with some top guest coaches - very innovative drills and no standing around. Yesterday morning the Silver team and then the Blue team each played a group of current D1 players.....and Whitecaps (Winny Brodt, Erin Keyes and Kenyon) Silver hung tough 3-2 at half but lost 7-3 and Blue lost 8-2 the HS girls had a schooling in speed, shooting and puck movement....speed of execution was so much faster with the college players but the HS players adjusted over the session it was less about skill than knowing what was happening/anticipation/reading the play. Last night the Blue and Silver had their first game Silver won 4-1 but it was 1-0 Blue half way through. The Blue and Silver will play again this morning.

The weekend was the first time I saw many of the younger players on the Blue Team - it is a very talented group of younger players who played well with a few 2010 seniors against the Silver team who are almost all going to be Seniors.

I give the MN Whitecaps Winny Brodt, Chris Peterson and Allie Sanchez a lot of credit for the time and effort they have put into this program to help MN HS girls develop and gain exposure. Here were the players/rosters:

MN JR Whitecaps Silver

D Leah Jensen 2011 E. Gand Forks
F Missy Mankey 2010 Coon Rapids
G Shelby Amsley-Benzie 2011 Warroad
G Kaitlin Rolando 2010 Tartan

I think the plan is to have a Scrimmage Fest again in July pre-International Cup and August pre NAHA with the Ice Cats and maybe Blades.

The Sunday MN Jr Whitecaps Blue vs. Silver ended up 2-1 Silver. Very good game Silver dictated play in terms of shots but Blue goalies played very well.

The whole weekend was good. When you have High School girls getting a chance to scrimmage/practice & play against D1 and Olympic players - How can you beat that..?!
