A record 17 former players from the Upper Midwest High School Elite Hockey League were chosen in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, held June 26-27 in Montreal. Most of them played high school hockey in Minnesota:

I'm not so sure its the elite league creating more exposure to the NHL as it is the benefits of playing the extra games against strong competition creating better players. Most of these players already had plenty of exposure.

Schmidt & Mattson did, Walters did not.
