I know what you're saying but normally you sign up the team you manage for the appropriate tournaments at the appropriate level. They must have forgot to plan where they wanted to play. A little disorganized maybe. The 95 Icemen played in the 94 International Cup Invite Tournament which is probably a better fit for a team like the Rebels/Breakaway.
The 98-99-00 discussions about invite and open are funny because I don't think it's entirely defined at the younger levels. Some of the kids are open level and some invite level on the same teams. By 93-94-95 this gets a little better defined. I don't suppose the teams that registered and paid to play in a 94 open level tournament expected to face a miss placed team of 95 invite players in their weekend of fun tournament. Just weird.

Night Train - it's actually not at all unusual for say a 95 invite team to decide to play in a 94 open tournament against bigger kids. It's done all the time for development. Not all teams enter to win tournaments - some actually use them with only development in mind and feel that playing older, bigger kids will help the younger, skilled elite players in the long term. I highly doubt the choice was made because they were "disorganized". In many coaches minds, that is the appropriate tournament and level to help the kids develop. You can play them at the invite tourney like the 94 International Cup, but usually they will just be completely out - matched and they won't learn anything from it. The more typical choice is to play up a year but at the open level. It's done all the time.

You referring to the game at New Hope? That Breakaway team was a split squad. Half were playing the Icemen, the other half were in the other rink playing against a Canadian team at the same time. I believe when the FULL Breakaway team played the Icemen, the result was much different.mghockey18 wrote:I only went to one of their games..and they beat the Machine "aka Breakaway" 7-2. They are a pretty good '95 team.
That 95 Breakaway team is hands down the top 95 team in this State and Region, IMO. The Blades are a close 2nd, and the Icemen 3rd.

Yes it is...The Rebels are basically Breakaway "in disguise"...The Exiled One wrote:Is this the team with Colford, Raskob, and Suggerud's kid?drhook wrote:I heard that a bunch of breakaway players formed a team called the rebels. That might bring some competition to the field. Watch out Magicians.

This is the team you're calling the best '95s in the state? Do you know if any of these guys are playing varsity this season?muckandgrind wrote:Yes it is...The Rebels are basically Breakaway "in disguise"...The Exiled One wrote:Is this the team with Colford, Raskob, and Suggerud's kid?drhook wrote:I heard that a bunch of breakaway players formed a team called the rebels. Fasching will be for sure at AV. McCoshen is playing Tier I at Shattuck...Raskob will most likely be playing varsity as well, or at least has the ability to play varsity at Hastings, IMO...maybe a few others as well....We'll need to wait and see after tryouts in November, I guess....The Exiled One wrote:This is the team you're calling the best '95s in the state? Thanks. I'm a big SCSU fan... do you know if Michael (son of former SCSU standout Mike Brodzinski) will be playing with his big brother Jonny for the Bengals next season?muckandgrind wrote:Fasching will be for sure at AV.
