U19 International Cup

Post by OntheEdge »

Looks like a good list of teams. I'm not familiar with CHS Valley Warriors, Qwest, Westwood Sports or Beaver Pride. Does anyone know anything about these teams?

This is simply a guess...but there is a team called the Valley Warriors in Northwestern MN that has been organized out of Crookston for a few years so guessing that is the team. They won the Pepsi Cup this year.

Westwood sports also played in the Pepsi Cup but no idea on them or the other teams mentioned. There used to be a HS age team called Minnkota Wildcats out of Moorhead that seems to not be playing this summer although the younger teams are listed on various tournaments....possibly the HS age team got a sponsor?

Pretty sure the Beaver Pride team has several Bemiji players?

The CHS Valley Warriors consists of girls who play on Crookstons High school team or will this year, and A EGF and a couple of Roseau girls.

The rosters are out and you are correct. Beaver Pride has at least 10 Bemidji State players on their roster (see http://www.pointstreak.com/players/play ... sonid=4485).(Lieder, M. Wheelhouse, E Wheelhouse, Deboer, Vichorek, Johnson, Erickson, Babineau, L. Williams, and Lundquist).

It should be a good test for the HS girls in this tourney. In playing what is essentially a WCHA team, the girls can see where they are in their development and what they need to do to get to the next level.

After Day 1 pools look like this.

Key game this morning as the MN JR Whitecaps Blue will play the MSP Blue Novas - winner will get the 1 or 2 seed loser will drop to 3rd - must win for the young Blue JWC they lost to the Beaver Pride Team who played physical and won 5-2.

Team Standings
Team Name GP W L T PTS GF GA PIM
Pool A
Minneapolis Blue Novas 2 1-0-1 3 pts 8 GF 2 GA 8 PIM
Beaver Pride 2 1-0-1 3 6 3 14
MN Jr. Whitecaps Blue 2 1-1-0 2 8 6 18
Schwans Blues 2 0 2 0 0 2 13 14

Pool B
Reeces Pieces 2 2-0-0 4 15 3 20
MN Jr. Whitecaps Silver 2 1-1-0 2 9 4 20
Team TPS Outlaw 2 1-1-0 2 5 11 16
Madison Capitals 2 0-2-0 0 5 16 26

Reeces Pieces who won last year have another top team of CDN girls here include Bailey Bram, her little sister and Katie Wilson - they have great team speed and a lot of snipers who can put the puck in the net. Talking with some of thier parents who we have met through the Two Nations Female Hockey League they marvel at MN girls hockey - they said over the last 5 years they can't beleive the overall step up in play and the sheer depth of talent so nice compliment even though they beat the JWC Silver team 3-1.

Here are the Leading Scorers through Day 1

Believe it or not, there was another whole division of 8 teams playing in the U19 tournament this past weekend. Although these teams were not in the upper bracket, there were some very skilled players on a number of these teams. Here are the results:

Championship:
Qwest 5
Flames 3

3rd:
OsXtreme 0
Freeze 0
[I believe OsXtreme won this in a shootout, but am not positive]

5th:
Missfits 3
CHS Valley Warriers 1

7th:
Minnesota Mystery 8
Westwood Sports 4

I hope all of the girls had a fun time playing in this tournament. In my opinion, the tournament was run very well this year.
