THE INAUGURAL MINNESOTA ICE CATS SCRIMMAGE FEST JULY 24-26

Post by joehockey »

Ice Cats have just announced this tournament as a Showcase and hope to get D1 coaches out to watch - the two top Ice Cat teams; the two MN JR Whitecap teams and the MN Blades. The 4 games will serve as a warm up for the International Cup at Blaine and Chowder Cup in Boston where teams or players will be playing the following weekend. These teams all played in the Blues Invitational in May and it was great hockey. I understand that there may be another in late August as tune up for NAHA. This was put together by the teams as an at cost event to try and keep the cost of hockey in line - great work by the teams and organizers.

Here is game schedule and past rosters (from Blues Tourney and from Forum - sorry don't have complete info - maybe others can post)

JULY 24, 25, 26 ANDOVER ICE ARENA

box and / or the time clock.

** Games will consist of a 5 minute warm up followed by 2 – 31
minute running time periods, with a 3 minute rest between
periods.

** There will be 2 officials for each game. The tag up rule will be

Great game tonight between the older Ice Cats and the MN Jr Whitecaps Silver - the JWC Silver won 5-3 on an open net goal. Kallie Billadeau was the difference as the Ice Cats held the advantage in shots and play much of the game.

I don't think the correction above is correct. I could be wrong (and if I am I missed an EN) but I recall that the final score of the Jr. Whitecaps Silver vs. Icecats Micheletti was 2-1 in favor of the Jr. Whitecaps.

Also, the late game Icecats - Micheletti beat Icecats - Perusek 3-1.

Some very entertaining hockey Saturday night with a couple games played at a quick pace. Plenty of skill on display. I couldn't really even single out players due to individual skill...with all players, across the board exhibiting such talent. Somewhat of a softy hurting the Perushek bunch as they pressed for the equalizer.

Harvard, UND, SCSU and Mankato scouted the weekend.

Lots of discussion this weekend on kids from 2010 class (I won't post names) but here are some schools/commitments - this is kids from across the state not just in this event this weekend:

St Cloud State
Outstate Forward
Outstate Defense

Bemidji
Metro Defense

Minnesota
Metro Forward

Providence
Metro Defense
Metro Forward

Dartmouth
Metro Defense

I didn't get to see any of the games. My daughter told me Monique Weber played for the big Ice Cats and was strong as ever. Any other current D1 college kids play?

I think Jenna Peterson from Mankato was playing on the older Icecats.

I think Weber and Peterson were only players who have played a year of college hockey...in many ways they were bigger, stronger and faster than the others...take away from what I saw if you want to play at the next level working on your skating strength, passing (giving and recieving) and shot - the other thing they did so well was move away from the play without the puck they were always creating ways to get in the play.

The following are girls who will play D1 fall of 2009 who participated this weekend. This was great at cost hockey. For my duaghter's team the Silver JR Whitecaps every game went right to the end and two of the games involved open net goals - great hockey thanks to all who worked to put it together.

Joe, one correction to the above: Lindsay Domaas is headed to Northeastern, not BC.
