I've been trying to track the progress at the USHL camps. So far I see Joe Schmitz, Caleb Herbert, Justin Crandall, and Max Gaede all on Sioux City's 30 man roster. Chicago and Cedar Rapids are the only other teams that have released their rosters, but I don't see any high schoolers on them. Reminder, just because they made the 30-man doesn't mean they'll make the final roster, nor does it mean they have acceptted an invite to join the team, nor does it preclude them from doing a "before & after" even if they do accept an invite.
There are a bunch of high schoolers who made the "All-Star" final day of the tryout camps (the cut before the 30 man roster). Joe Faust, Max Gardiner, Mike Reilly, Connor Reilly, Ryan Reilly, Tony Larson, Adam Knochenmus, Christian Isackson, and Kyle Rau are a few of them.

The 25 man rosters are starting to be released. Again, these guys could do a "Before & After", but USHL teams try to avoid doing that as it wastes a roster spot for most of the regular season.

Yeah. I believe Someone named Mike Reilly owns it! What a surprise. My guess is they will play their final year @ HA and then do a year in Iowa in hopes of landing a D1 deal. The Exiled One wrote:The Reillys tried out with Sioux Falls. Joey Benik of St. Francis and Zane Gothberg of Thief River Falls have both been named to the Fargo Force 25 man roster. It's not clear whether either will report for either all or part of the 09-10 season.
Besides the Reillys mentioned above, a bunch of other Minnesotans tried out for the Sioux Falls team. We're still waiting for the Stampede to release their roster.

I thought Reilly had something do to with Sioux City, IA team, not the Sioux Falls team?hockeyrocks wrote:Yeah. I believe Someone named Mike Reilly owns it! What a surprise. Nope! this is just the future. As we talk about cutting back HS hockey here because of budget reason. They go to a team like Russel Stover play 46 games at 18 min Periods and well..... you do the math it doesn't take a genius to figure out what is starting to happen. We are going to loose the best kids during their HS years... Heck look at the Rogers kids (before HS). Our HS League needs help...... OR...... we need to create a place here in MN that our elite kids can play! and i am not talking about Jr B.

Elite league plus HS season is about 45 games. there is a place to play if they are good enough to make Elite 1...Chuck Norris Fan wrote:The Exiled One wrote:HOLY COW!! Russel Stover must have a hell of a MN recruiter!just the facts wrote:Wagoner, James D 93 Owatonna, MN Russell Stover U16 AAA

Who knows what these kids are thinking, maybe they don't like the idea of playing class A hockey...or maybe they are gunning for the CHL.

Tradition
That is too bad about the Rogers program losing those 2 kids. With a nice crop of bantams coming up and a very good corp of returners they would surely have contested with Hermantown for the section title. Losing kids of that caliber does not lend to building a strong program especially when it becomes an annual occurance. I know there are many options out there but that program is getting off of its feet and oldtimers like to see those programs develop (around the state) much like Hermantown has done. In Rogers case I hope this does not become an annual trend.Nelson, Logan F 93 Rogers, MN Russell Stover U16 AAA
Anderson, Nick F 93 Rogers, MN Russell Stover U16 AAA
The guy who runs he program is a former Rochester JM player, Pat Ferschweiler. There isn't much in that area for hockey and given who they compete against they need players. From the list getting Lapic is a major coup but even with Lapic these aren't kids from top programs or even top half conferences. They've taken some very run of the mill kids from Minnesota before, this list seems to be better, but largely with Lapic.

As mentioned above, these are not necessarily the elite hockey players from MN or any other state. The families do however have access to to a lot of money. The kids that play for these AAA u16 and u18 teams pay about $8,000 a season to play. The teams that they play against are from all over the country.
USHL if free to play
NAHL you only pay $250 a month for host family.
MJHL you pay about $3,500 to play plus host family.
Do the math!
It's not for the elite players...it's for the elite parents.
Bad decision by the parents. Finish high school and enjoy going back to your high school reunions.

Who are you to determine if it was a bad decision by the parents, your not in their position. The elite AAA teams like Russell Stover get a ton of exposure and it is great hockey, probably alot better competition overall throughout the season than any Minnesota HS plays. Most of the kids from Minnesota that go there are very good hockey players from the smaller schools who tend to get overlooked by the Elite league for example. Look at the USHL and NAHL rosters and they are filled with kids from these AAA programs. It is just another option for kids.2pipesnin wrote:As mentioned above, these are not necessarily the elite hockey players from MN or any other state. Zero chance that U16 hockey is better than MN high school. U18 has some teams that would compete, but even SSM (who is usually one of the best) doesn't roll over the top teams in state...davey wrote:Who are you to determine if it was a bad decision by the parents, your not in their position.
