Section 2A 09-10

Post by heresaymatters »

Its a no brainer that Breck is favored to repeat. Beyond that, who might give them a scare? Word is Blake is improving, Orono might be stong, don't know about Richfield or Delano, who could surprise. Anybody else?

P.S., class 2A fans need not respond, we already know you don't care.

Heard that Orono will do nothing this year with the loss of all their seniors (Hanson bro's, Persian and Skoog). I'm picking Breck especially with Russel between the pipes. Delano will be strong this year with Mclain and Heinonen who are both being scouted by the USHL.

Breck - will be a better team than last season.
Blake - will be down from last year (It may be a few years before they have a decent team)
Orono - will have one of their weakest teams in many years
Delano - will have one of their stonger teams a long time
Mound - returns most of their team and should be solid
Richfield - ??? (did they have a Bantam A team last year?)
Holy Family - people say that they have some good skaters coming in, but they have a long way to go..

Word is that EJ Faust from shattuck is now at Blake... can anyone verify this. I havent seen him play since he was younger but this could add a new element to next year's blake team.

I also heard this, but I don't think this will change the way Blake will look this year. They need more strong players...

Breck-Easily the best of this group this year
Delano-Very solid squad
Blake-Still a year away from being a contender
Holy Family-Should have a decent year
Mound-Lost a couple of key seniors off a slightly better than average team
Orono-A lot of question marks with the loss of all those seniors

Holy Family is in a perfect location to attract some of the top hockey players in the western metro, yet those same players who are leaving these communities for a private school are going else where, i.e. BSM, AHA, STA, Blake, Breck.

Take those same players who are at those schools right now and put them on the same team at HF, your looking at a state championship caliber team.

Does anybody at HF realize how good their hockey program could and maybe should be right now?

They need a championship caliber coach at HF in order to get that done.

HF could have one of the most dominate hockey programs in the state drawing from talent rich D6 and some D5 communities like Crow River, Mound and D3 Orono. Could also possible draw in some New Prague kids

I couldn't agree with both of you flatontheice and High Flyer, but if they can get a good coach I believe that they will become a powerhouse like Holy Angels and Breck. Give them a few years and they will be state contenders

Its interesting that HF has already managed to get several other of thier sports teams to state already, yet they can't do the same in hockey.

HFs coaching has been decent. They just haven't recruted many top level skaters (I know they have tried). Most of the kids are from EP and Chaska and a few from Orono, Mound, Delano. Last years split with Waconia set them back, they had made some improvement prior to that. I agree that they are in a great location. But I don't see kids going there for hockey until HF has some better seasons.

Whats wrong with Holy Family's current staff? They had a great team two years ago but fell to Blake in the playoffs late in the game. I've heard great things about this years team.

Hold on a minute. They had a decent team two years ago. A great team would be one that at least made it to the section finals or cracked someone's top ten list at least one time during the year. As I see it, they are an average program that needs to win it's weak conference or make a run in sections before they get much more recognition.

Do you think the reason they are not a great team is because of their coaching staff?

Section 2A
Blake
Breck
Chanhassen
Delano
Holy Family Catholic
Mound-Westonka
Orono
Providence Academy
Richfield
Saint Louis Park
Waconia

Is Chan. in 2A? (I was kind of thinking they would be an AA school
I know they have a rink (the 2nd sheet that was just added to the Victoria Field house)
Any ideas on what they’ll have for a team?

1. Breck- The obvious number 1.
2. Blake- Some good talent and strong goaltending but still a few years away from competing with Breck.
3. Mound-Westonka- Strong Sr leadership must step up for this team to do well.
4. Delano- Best team they have had in a long time got some high level players but what will they be able to do with them.
5. Holy Family Catholic- Strong goaltending can bring you far.
6. Providence Academy- Young but promising
7. Orono- Don't know much about this team but lost alot of Srs and it dosn't look like the youth program will help them out any.
8. Saint Louis Park- Lost alot of Srs off of last years team have a strong Sophmore class but I can only see 1 or 2 making Varsity contributions this season.
9. Waconia- Don't know much about this team.
10. Richfield- No youth program losing some of the only talent they have this team could have a long year ahead of them.
11. Chanhassen- Do they even have a team?
