costs of AAA spring hockey with different teams

Post by Pylon »

Hi. I was wondering what the registration costs were for the different teams. What do the reg costs include. I assume jerseys, practice ice and tournament entry fees are extra.
Thanks

rememebr to look around, what you pay for you always do not get. like on some other posts, ask parents that have had kids on certain teams. see if they were promised everything they paid for

thanks for the reply.
That is where I was eventually going with this question.
I am curious to know what the different associations charge vs what you get.
I have heard astronomical numbers with some of the programs and I have a hard time believing it.

Legacy Teams

Post by square corners »

For the 2010 season, Legacy Hockey will introduce an Academy arrangement for all boy and girl birth year programs. Each birth year team will consist of 25 skaters and up to three goalies. The coaches will select the rosters for each tournament from the team of skaters. The rosters may vary as determined by coaching assessment, evaluation and team need.
Birth Year Teams 1996 through 1998 will follow this format:
Minimum of 80 practice hours [Last year, 100-110 hours]
4 tournaments for each roster
A set practice schedule of two hours practice sessions
Two team Jerseys [One game; one practice; no socks]
One team T-shirt
Cost for this program is $1,700 not including on line registration fees [Same cost as last year, but with less ice time and more skaters on the ice]

Birth Year Teams 1999 through 2001 and U10 through U14:
Minimum of 60 practice hours
3 tournaments for each roster
A consistent set practice schedule
Two team Jerseys [One game; one practice; no socks]
One team T-shirt
Cost for this program is $1,400 not including on line registration fees [Same cost as last year, but with more skaters on the ice

the other question you ask is, at tourneys do you bring in other kids for the roster, or do the paid players play.

B-I-D-S-I we were hoping for a coherent comment with rare daytime post from you...maybe next time.

Cost of AAA programs are all over the board--I suggest you compare # of hours that are set up for practice and dryland (if included) plus the number of tournaments (games) from each program you are evaluating. You will be able to do a rough cost comparison this way. The intangible is the quality of the coaching--find parents who have skated with the coach in the past, ask alot of question. We hear some coaches even wear suits to games!

cost to play AAA spring hockey

Post by edgework »

I have spoken to a couple of 98 and 99 Machine parents, who are now mostly Fire players as well and with all of the expenses for both teams, they are easily pushing $15,000.00 if not more. This would include the player and one parent traveling with them. Keep in mind this does not include the gas to get to and from the rinks for their practices and the time away from the parents job. You add to this $$$ for sticks, tape, skate sharpening, a quick meal on the way home and you are getting to the 20k mark real quick per player for 11 and 12 year olds. Some of them will say no way, DENIAL.

I don't know about you, but when I heard Legacy's new policy of carrying 25 skaters at full cost with no reductions given to "practice" players, it just looks like a way to sqeeze an extra $300 to $400 out of ten players per team. Now take this $3,000 to $4,000 increase per team and multiply it by how many teams??

Nice job, Scott. You're learning fast.

Thanks for the comments!
My child would fit into the higher elite catergory. I was just under the impression that you had to pay more at certain associations for sign up fees than others. By sign up fees I mean monies that are just to be apart of XXX organization, not monies related to ice costs, tournament entry fees etc.
I understand that different teams run different programs and that some are much more involved and require a greater committment.
