Captains Practice and Fall Sports

Post by MaxSnatch »

Does the MSHSL allow players to participate in Captains Practice if they are playing a fall sport? I say yes because Cpts is not an "official" HS sport. Others say they can't?????

Also, what the heck happened to Cpts Practice? Back when I played it was the Captains running some drills and then we scrimmaged. Now there is an adult out there (sometimes paid??) running them through 60 minutes of drills and conditioning.

So much for having some fun, bonding with your team and gaining the respect of your captains!!!!

I think that with the price of ice you need to make the best use of it.
and not all Captains are created equal, so some years you could get lots out of your practices and some may not be so good, But the Bonding is important but it can also be done off of the ice.

They can participate in both captains practices and a varsity sport under MSHSL rules. Although some high schools have rules stating you can not participate in captains practices if you are in another varsity sport at the same time.

Personally my team has someone out there to help run practice because really, how much is getting done with just the captains? We still scrimmage at the end and have fun with our teammates. We bond in the lockeroom before practice and at school.

Given the litigious nature of society these days it wouldn't surprise me if there were a contingency from the rinks that an adult needs to be on the ice for insurance purposes.

Just paid the ice bill for our girls. Asked the arena personnel about adults being on the ice and responded it was not necessary. Our girls voted to run fall practice by themselves. That is great. Shows initiatve and responsibility for the captains. Most of the girls play a fall sport and will show up when available, no problems with the coaches.
