Anybody know if/how Charlie Sampair is related to Brandon Sampair? How about Basil Sampair?

Why the forfeit at the U18 North level this AM? 7:00am game against Alaska Avalance.

I wouldn't want to play that early in the morning.

Heard the Elite II teams both got knocked out early. Does anyone know who ended up winning the tournament or where the results are posted?

Here's the best link to results. The Blades teams made the championships at 14, 16 & 18. They won at 14 & 18 but the 94 team lost to the Chicago Mission in the 16 championships. The Mission were the #1 ranked 94 AAA Tier 1 team last season.

The Elite II teams fared reasonably well finishing in the middle at 16 & 18. I did not attend but it looks like an outstanding event.

The U18 Elite II South beat the U18 Minnesota Blades in OT to start the tourney. The blades got a point for getting the tie so they took 1st in the pool and advanced to the final two games on Sunday.

The Blades had an exceptional goalie (Wilcox) that played that game and 4 out of 5 games on the weekend. Without him they would have been in trouble especially in the pool play game against the Chicago Young Americans team (they won 1-0). They struggled offensively scoring only 3 goals in their first two games but managed to improve by the end of the weekend. For a team that has been playing together this fall they did not impress me much especially after losing to the Elite II South team that had not played any games together.

They played the Chicago Mission (not fury) for the championship and won that game 2-0 with another exceptional goalie effort by Wilcox.

The hockey up in Blaine all week was fantastic. Some of the U16 teams were fun to watch and you could see some very talented young players. There was also some very good NAHL players and getting a chance to see the USA team play a few games was an added treat. It was an expensive ticket to get in ($50 for the weekend) but there was definitely some good hockey being played.

The U16 Chicago Mission consisted of a mixture of players from last year's top ranked 93 and 94 teams plus a couple additions. The 94 team by itself would be a lot to handle. Add the 93 players and you have a very strong team.

Brett Larsen was actually the better goaltender in the Elite II South game vs. U18 Blades. He was the reason that the E2 team was able to tie the Blades in regulation and win in a shoot out. Wilcox was outstanding over most of the weekend but let in a couple of goals against Elite II South that he would normally stop.

I agree. Larsen had a great game and was the main reason the Elite II South was able to beat the Blades.

Thanks for the updates and the link to the scores. Looks like Elite II South got beat like 7-0 by the Chicago Young Americans. Is that score right? Sounds like a great tournament. The Blades team sure finished strong.

Yea, they came out slow and gave up 3 pretty quick and then had to take chances to try and get back into the game. The game was early and they had a late game the night before but they still have no reason to not come out strong every game. They had a similar slow start the night before against the Alaska Avalanche but were able to come back and score 5 in the third period to win it.

Overall the games on the weekend were very fun to watch for all the teams involved. The tournament was well organized and there was plenty of hockey for everyone to see.

A few observations:

1) The NAHL league talent is on the rise. Quite a few players thought of as serious D1 prospects the last couple years are in this league rather than the USHL.

2) The U18 Blades was a pretty much throw together team. The experienced 92 born Blades players were in New Hope playing in the Elite I league.

3) The Elite II teams faired better than expected.

4) The U14 Blades team has some serious talent.

5) The NTDP team was solid. Biggs, Miller, McNeely, Van Voorhuis and Grimaldi were impressive. But not quite the same blue chip talent as some of the players from recent teams.
