Anybody know if they have released the tournament schedule played at the X over Christmas break? I was told that the gold devision might have 16 teams this year? Any validity to that?

Heres the teams playing in it
Moorhead
Centennial

When you lose in the first round, you are dropped to a lower division. They lost last year to WBL in round 1.blueblood wrote:interesting, no centennial this year....
Re: Schwan's
They chose this tourney over a sub division of the Schwan cup. That's what happens when you lose in the 1st round the previous year.King of the Pond wrote:A lot of big name teams including Centennial have chosen to play in this St louis Park tourneyHeres the teams playing in itblueblood wrote:interesting, no centennial this year....

2005 Duluth East, Roseville, Jefferson all lost 1st round. All back in Gold division in 2006
2006 Duluth East, Roseville lose in 1st round AGAIN. All back in Gold division in 2007.
2007 Duluth East loses for the 3rd straight year in the first round. Not sure if they played last year or not. The results page on the site isn't working.
At any rate, Duluth East is back again for 2009.
Bottom line, it's not whether they lost in the first round in the previous year. The goal of the organizers of the Schwan Cup is to put the best teams that they can get committed in the Gold Division.

Re: Schwan's
East was dropped to silver last year--and again lost their first round game. The Schwan Cup has not been kind to the Hounds. Your overall point definitely seems to be right.gitter wrote:2007 Duluth East loses for the 3rd straight year in the first round. Not sure if they played last year or not. And just so I'm not picking on only East and Roseville, Moorhead lost in the first round of 2006 and was back in the Gold division again in 2007.
Although quite impressively, Roseville finished 8/8 in 2005, 6/8 in 2006 and was still invited back in 2007 to the Gold.
I'm beating a dead horse now.
Any rate, looking forward to another good tournament at the X this year.
Re: Schwan's
And White Bear has lost in the first round many times in the Gold Division while returning to the Gold the following years.gitter wrote:Unfortunately, much like the state tournament hasn't been kind to WBL.karl(east) wrote:East was dropped to silver last year--and again lost their first round game. Re: Schwan's
I guess I was wrong. The way it was described to me was that if you won in the first round the previous year, you are guaranteed a spot in the Gold division the following year. (Doesn't mean you have to accept it.) And if you lost in the first round, you were not guaranteed anything.gitter wrote:Unfortunately, much like the state tournament hasn't been kind to WBL.karl(east) wrote:East was dropped to silver last year--and again lost their first round game. Oh well, it is always a good tournament regardless.

Legit source? I guess I wouldn't doubt it - the X is very empty for these games. It's almost like the Girls State Tournament. I can't imagine them breaking even based on renting the ice and the dismal ticket sales. Perhaps it will continue, but at a different venue...grizzgreen3312 wrote:rumor circulating that the 09' schwan cup will be the last..crossing my fingers that this isnt true!

Different venue? Well, there is this new 6,500 seat arena opening in about 14 months just a couple hours north of the X. That'd work for me.gitter wrote:Legit source? Re: Schwan's
You need to check your facts, WBL has not lost an opening round game in the last 5 years, And I'm not sure if they ever lost one. However, they have only made it to the championship round once.wbmd wrote:And White Bear has lost in the first round many times in the Gold Division while returning to the Gold the following years.gitter wrote:Unfortunately, much like the state tournament hasn't been kind to WBL.karl(east) wrote: East was dropped to silver last year--and again lost their first round game. But, in the history of the Schwan's Cup, White Bear has lost first round games and returned to play the following year in the top division.formerlybackofnet wrote:You need to check your facts, WBL has not lost an opening round game in the last 5 years, And I'm not sure if they ever lost one. I didn't imply that it would. My post meant the new DECC will be a "sight" (as in to see) not a "site" (as in physical place).Zamman wrote:Sorry, the Scwans will not leave the metro. I would guess they move it to the larger of the standard size rinks for all the tournaments. Aldrich, New Hope, Brooklynn Center, Richfield, maybe the Super rink I hope not.
Will see......
If it does move to a different venue, perhaps the old "Capital City Classic" would make a return....
