Section 1AA
Can someone tell me why this is even a section? This is a joke, no teams in the top 20 and whoever wins this section gets crushed in state. This section really needs to get some teams switched.

Well the section is weak. I wish they would try and mix some more of the south metro teams into the section from Apple Valley, Eastview, Rosemount, and Burnsville perhaps. They like the southern Minnesota representation though so I don't see it happening. If though could mix the southern teams into two different sections along with some metro area teams that would probably be ideal for a more competitive state tournament. Some years southern Minnesota would still win those sections even as well. Another option would be working up around 52, easy shot to Rochester for section games for schools like Park, East Ridge, Hastings, Woodbury if they didnt want to use the ISD 196 schools.
2009: Rochester Century 0-2, outscored 10-1

2006: Lakeville North 0-2, outscored 11-5
2005: Rochester Century 0-2, outscored 5-1

Yes I agree with you that this section is not the strongest and they have not won a game at the tournament since '07. However, people need to realize that teams regroup every year and maybe within the next five years or so, some teams in this section will get some good players from the youth programs that can help them compete at the state tournament.
Every team in this section does pretty well with what they have! Not one team in this section gets as many players to choose from as what the cities teams get to.

Jeez, alright buddy. It was just a thought, I'm not talking about your sister right now. And I have no idea what game you're saying I watched on TV. But the past few years I haven't seen any "state worthy" teams come out of it. But I guess this will probably never be fixed. This year the state tournament is really in section 6AA in my opinion. Whoever gets knocked out of that section in the final is 2nd in state in my book.wtbearlk1111 wrote:Life is not always fair. Live with it.
Congratulation they made it to State.
I take it you watched it on TV.

For the section champ of 1AA it pretty much is. I guarantee they lose their first round game at state and would be willing to bet my life that they don't win it all.wtbearlk1111 wrote:wow the Tourney is already over?
Anyways, this topic comes up every year, I'm sure we'll hear a lot more about it come tourney time. Unfortunately there's nothing we can do about so we might as well stop complaining and just accept that there will be a terrible and undeserving team playing at state.

I think Century will return to the tournament again this season. After watching their first three games of the season, I don't think they will get embarrassed. They have a good first line that can put the puck in the net and they have a very solid goalie in Brock Kautz that can keep them in the game. I wouldn't be surprised to see them pull an upset.

Section 1AA
I have a different view on the teams in Section 1AA. I think its total BS they let the Lakeville schools play the southern Minnesota schools at the end of year. Even if they don't have the numbers to compete I like the idea of the whole state being represented at the X at the end of he year.

Yes this section is likely the weakest among the eight, but is this a good reason to rip a bunch of kids based on where they play? I think recent history will show that a number of youth teams from this section have competed very well. Unfortunately Rochester splits their kids 4 ways and Lakeville struggles to keep their kids at home, resulting in Varsity sqauds that we can all agree don't match up well with the big schools or the privates. If all of Lakeville south's kids were playing at home I think most of us would see them as a contender. A year ago three of the top bantam teams in the state played in distict 8 which is comprised of mostly section 1 teams. The MSHSL does not consider the strength of teams or particular sports when sections are aligned. If this discussion concerned girls volleyball or girls basketball would your opinion be the same? I've posted this before and I'll say it again, complaints should be directed at the MSHSL not the teams that play by their rules. I'd love to see a state touney play down that seeded the top sixteen teams regardless of section, doing this would prevent those teams from section 1 deemed unworthy from getting to state. Until this happens we'll continue to see teams from this section that have trouble competing at state, The system is far from perfect but calling this section a joke does nothing but offend those that play there.
Nodak Sioux you made some good points about Century. They do have a great first line that is going to score an abundance of goals in the big 9 this year. However you need more than one line to do anything beyond this conference. I do see Century probably coming out of the section but they would get beat up pretty bad in the state tourney. This team reminds me of New Prague of the last two years barring the fact that Century has a much better goalie. One line that plays majority of the game. They were beat the other night by Tartan. I don't know what kind of team Tartan has but they are not ranked very high as of today's date.
I hear the same story every year, "section 6 is the best, the section final is the state championship." I'm a numbers guy. Here's the results of the state tournament over the last 10 years based on sections.nikebauer05 wrote:Jeez, alright buddy. It was just a thought, I'm not talking about your sister right now. Champions 2nd 3rd Total Medals
1:0 1:0 1:1 1
2:2 2:1 2:1 4
3:1 3:0 3:1 2
4:1 4:2 4:1 4
5:4 5:0 5:2 6
6:1 6:0 6:1 2
7:0 7:4 7:3 7
8:1 8:3 8:0 4
Based on the results during the tournament, section 6 has not fared all that well. Only section one has fared worse.

Looks to me that section 5 and 7 are typically the strongest.
Section One should be changed to become more competitive. Maybe they should moved some of section 6 teams into there so we can see the real championship.
