What? Hill dominated the 2nd, and finally cashed in late. They outshot Benilde 22 -4 in the 2nd.

I thought BSM was fortunate to come out with a tie. Their second period was dreadful. They had their chances but H-M had the better of the play for most of the game. Meyers deserved to get the game's No. 1 star.

It clears up my point that G is not a strength for HM. BSM played very good first period, controlled the boards, and got a few shots on net and a couple went in, almost two others, but they ran out of gas.

We got the home ref again, four unanswered penalties, including a boarding??? the one ref just couldn't let them play. Too bad, could have been a good game, but those four penalties in about 15-20 minute span sapped bsm. Even with almost 4 minutes of major pwr play they were done, though they seemed to bring it on a bit in ot, but the HM skaters were clearly better conditioned.

HM clearly has the better legs and skill up front, very solid D didn't let much get close, but G is big question mark. Good thing we have those pipes, came in handy a few times.

BSM clearly has d1 goalie. He can skip NA and go ushl next year then write himself a nice scolarship ticket somewhere. Has that meyers kid committed? MVP tonight.

Solid game by both teams and both coaches got to see thier kids compete in a tight game. I was happy to see the Pioneers respond after the 1st period and settle into the flow of the game. Shaughnessy did a nice job and will continue to get better. All in all, great early season game and entertaining for people who were snowed in last night.

Shaughnessy was definitely off in the first period. He really settled down after that and played well the rest of the way. H-M seemed to be better conditioned and outskated BSM after that bad first period. BSM goalie played well and kept the game a tie, even stopping that penalty shot.

1. Although I didn't see the first 8 minutes of the game (presumed to be dominated by BSM), I thought HM was the better team. They dominated the 2nd period and had the better chances in the third and OT.

2. The BSM goalie was outstanding. I love the way he takes away the angles. His glove looked very quick also. But, what's with the "C". Is he going to leave the net to talk to the refs on a disputed call.

3. Typical reffing in a HM game. I was amazed to see the one ref (taller and thinner one). I thought he only worked the HM vs WBL games. Talk about blinders.

4. Nice crowd. Good thing the JV teams were there, otherwise it would have been empty.

5. Although not strong, Shaughnessy will have to man the nets alone. I heard a rumor last night that the Freshman goalie from WBL can't make grades. Can anybody confirm this?

Patterson wears the other "C", I think the "C" on Meyers has more to do with his leadership in the locker room and at practice.

I thought the game last night was a great one to watch. I agree that BSM looked dominant early, then it was all HM. What an awesome 4 minute PK followed by Faust coming out of the box and scoring the goal.

It was very interesting to see all the freshmen get all that ice time, especially when Labosky was moved to center during the overtime... Besse and Lavalle look like they will be very good players. Labosky and Moore looks like they will also be pretty good players for BSM in the near future.

Besse didn't do much though saved the game with the backcheck late in OT , Horn is legit, and very surprised at the lack of depth by BSM. Thought Coach Pauly made some poor choices leaving Patterson out for an entire 5 minute Power Play, and also moving him back to Defense when he was obviously exhausted & gambling caused numerous odd man rushes, thankfully Meyers covered up for the mistakes.

Anyone know how the JV game ended up between these two? Just curious to know how their JV kids match up against eachother.

RE #1 - BSM four penalties in about 20 minute span killed their legs, though HM is always better conditioned early in the season so not sure it would have mattered, they ran into a really good goalie or it would have been a landslide.

RE #3 - As longtime HM guy, can't believe the refs. This play calling gives people food for fodder, which this team doesn't need, STOP calling weak penalties against our opponents and make us earn the win, its embarrassing.

RE #4 - the HM side as usual had no more people than BSM despite a blizzard. I'm sure it will be full for WBL when the fair weather fans take my seat.

RE #5 - Shaughnessy was ALWAYS going to man the nets alone. He played almost every game last year, the back up is irrelevant. He's the weak spot, an exhibition on technique was performed at the other end, hopefully he was watching, doubt the back up is any better or ready for this level.

JD looked very good on D, they all did, except one, (guess which one lives near lech?) Won't hurt him as much as JP (neighbor) did on D last year. But JD has the skill to go d1, not sure the others do, but they are solid HS players, Johnson is very solid, not d1 but very solid, and the breakout with that speed leaving the zone will kill some teams.

Lets hope we don't see Walsh pump fist and jump up an down the length of the bench on his 3rd goal to make it 9-0 against simley!!! Honestly that's about as embarassing a sport moment as any i've ever seen when this team does that. Too bad the coach doesn't teach "class"

Ditto, his guys were tired and he didn't help. he had lots of time, call a time out or something and let the kids get their legs back a bit and regroup to take advantage of that pp. That was a great opportunity he wasted, his guys never got to touch the puck in our end. Oh well, he had the right goalie, but the team was way outmatched. Coach didn't have the patience to take patterson out for a minute, lech did use lots of legs last night.

Last night? at home watching them on tv. You're right though - not much student support. Years ago, snow or no snow, students went to the games. The attendance was so bad it looked like a silver bracket Scwans Cup game.

I heard Pauly cut good seniors and left good juniors either on jv or 4th line to take these freshman. clearly a senior or junior would have been able to do more out there just off pure strength of being older.

Dude, I watched the game last night. Horton played very well. Faust jumped out of the penalty box and had a step on Horton. Its the rare defenseman that can win a foot race with one of the speedier forwards in the state.

Who, specifically were the good seniors? Who are the juniors on the 4th line? What scouting lists are they on? Or, were they average or below average players that would have just filled bench space when it gets down to the end of the year when teams go with two and a half lines?

My guess is that Pauly is a solid coach and knows what he is doing. If he has youngsters that aren't getting the job done at Varsity, he will trade them out for players that are getting it done at the JV level as the season progresses.

The job of the coach is to develop players. Early in the year they take some risks on some of the young players to see who may be ready. If they aren't ready, they get moved. This isn't just a BSM thing.

Hill has never played Simley, 9-0, and according to stats Walsh has only scored this year against Duluth Marshal.

As for this game, Hill skated 4 lines all night until the final few minutes when Lech went to two Lines. Benild went with two lines most of the night, hence the legs could not keep up. The goalie kept Benild in the game.
