Winning Teams/Programs
Re: The Structure
True, Packeboy. But the high school coach got of bed this morning and worried about what was best for you and your son - and how he could help you sell your pizzas for the annual fund raiser.

Re: The Structure
Hey, we dont sell pizzas..its wreaths..want one?

I know, Ill buy one of your pizzas and you buy one of my wreaths.

Re: The Structure
I'm big on candybars. I'll buy a box if you got 'em. The Boys Scouts already hit me up for the wreath!

It's all clear now....
No, I disagree with the "rub in a nutshell". I do not want what is best for me, or any one individual within any organization. I want what is best for All players within every organization. Thats how Minnesota hockey gets better.

The focus must be on the players, all players collectively, NOT on the organization (see post #231, paragraph 3). If the players are being served, the organization will be successful. I think when the focus is on the organization the quality suffers.

Bottomline, if you are concerned about your program, you may want to return focus to the players on the ice in the program. Focus on what can be done to help all players develop to become the best players they can become. Get them quality coaches that know the game and can teach them about hockey. Be less concerned about the number of players in the organization, or who wants to leave/join the organization, and where they live. Focus more on developing the players you have, and I bet the success of the organization will take care of itself.

Principles aside, from a practical standpoint, do you really want people locked in your organization that do not want to be there? I am sure they are more than willing to volunteer. I am also sure they are not at the board meetings with complaints. Why not let these people go? Focus on the development of the players that want to be there.

P.S. When did fundraising become part of youth hockey? Did Phil Housley do fundraisers? Was John Mayasich a good fundraiser?

P.S. Knowlze
Fund raising for youth hockey through candy sales or what have you has been around for at least thirty years. How do I know my dad was the chairman for the fundraising and I got stuck ringing damn near every doorbell in Roseau pushing Fanny Farmer candy for the Jaycee Pee-Wees and that was 1972. So ask Phil he probably got stuck doing it too. John Mayasich probably had a paper route to help defray his hockey expenses.

Pretty flippin far from clear
We are all focused on our players on the ice. We all do the things you suggest.

We have to be concerned about quality coaching and the development of players AND numbers.

We all have to see the big picture and be concerned about all aspects, not just what your little Johnny wants.

We don't enhance the development of our "people that want to be there" by losing players. Your suggestion is the easy way out. We need people who will be strong for the programs ....not take the easy way out.

With ice time at $160/hr and tournaments at $500 a throw fundraising better be a part of any program. I suppose you think we should disregard that too.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... ckerboy at: 12/21/05 10:37 am

packerboy,

I'm not joining this foray again this year. I spent too much time defending community based hockey last year. I refuse to take Knowles bait again. There are 2 types of people in this world.

The WE people

and

The I people

leave it at that....

Re: Pretty flippin far from clear
Well, you are right Neut.

Someday, maybe some of the "I" people will realize that "WE" includes them..if you know what I mean.

Youth Fundraising
How could anyone have a problem with a bar of the "World's Finest Chocolate"?

Re: Trebil Clarification
Help me understand then how a kid from way over in Hastings one of there best Bantams ends up all the way at AHA. You think a kid would travel all that way if he was not recruited. When he has a strong program in his backyard.

Come on they recruit as well as the gophers

Don't forget the 50 - 50 ticket ambush when you walk into some rinks. Oh by the way lars22; don't hit that horse too hard as swollen as it is, it will likely be stinky if you puncture it.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... m>Renegade Ram at: 12/21/05 7:09 pm

Re: Chocalte thunder
Another newbie. Lars maybe instead of assuming you know it all, call up the parents of this kid and ask. Maybe you will get a straight answer, then again maybe not anyway the topic is dead and newbies need to read all the other posts on this board before speaking.
________________________________
Academy of Holy Angels
2005 GIRLS STATE CHAMPS!
2002 & 2005 BOYS STATE CHAMPS!!
GO STARS!!

Easy way out?
I think it is pretty EASY to sit on the hockey board and deny all waiver requests, so your organization doesn't lose any players.

More difficult would be to provide excellant experiences for all hockey players so they want to come back again next year.

With regard to the 2 types of people in the world, its not clear in your posts. I am just curious, what type do you guys (Neut and Packerboy)think you are? And, what type do you think Knolwze is?

Re: Easy way out?
Really, Knowlze. How many times have you done it?

Re: Easy way out?
I do my volunteering on the ice/field (primarily hockey and baseball). As stated in earlier posts, it is a very difficult project that all parents should experience. I tried my best, just as was expected of all players. But, enough about me....trying to avoid the I type people label, WE type sounds better, but not sure I will ever qualify.
