If im right Phil will step down after this season, and the jv coach matt doman(I thinks thats how you spell it) will become the new head coach.

Given that he turned the U down already and went directly to the pros, I can't see him going there unless he wants to get the kid in a D1 school like the current coach.Goldfishdude wrote:All speculation the past couple years is Phil's desire to get with USA Hockey and be part of the developmental aspect.
I am starting the rumor RIGHT NOW he will be the next Minnesota Gopher coach!!!![]()

I don't think my comment was bashing Tony at all. Your interpretation of above average and mine are slightly different! I suppose you think the gophers are an above average WCHA team also?
I was just commenting on the suggestion of Phil taking over the Gopher program.
Are you bashing the young Housley kid?

Re: Coach
They would be lucky to have Matt Doman as their head coach. He is a great young man who knows hockey beyond his years. I would be shocked if he doesn't move beyond high school hockey very soon.HMHockey943 wrote:If im right Phil will step down after this season, and the jv coach matt doman(I thinks thats how you spell it) will become the new head coach.
He cut my son from the JV in tryouts and made him feel good about himself at the same time. I think he's a rare coach who makes the players understand that he cares about them.

Its off the topic but when it comes to judging the play of individual gopher players I'd look at a good number of other players before ripping Tony. No he isn't a star, but at least you know what your getting. Would they be better without him? From what I've seen a couple guys actually fit in that group!
The gophers need more players like T. Lucia, T. Matson, M. Carman, and M. Hoeffel. They need to go away from the pre madonna kids like Schroeder, Barriball, Okposo, and Ness. These kids could careless about the gophers. I bet Schroeder leaves the program in January.
The next Gopher coach will be Dean Blais or Scott Bell. Housley has no chance at that job.
My prediction...Gophers finish 4th, No Dakota 5th, and SCSU 6th

Barriball ? You have to be kidding? The young man didn't even have a scholarship his 1st year, he was a walk on. Now this year he is out, so he will redshirt and have another year of eligibility. Why? because he loves the game. Give me 15 Barriballs and I will show you a national championship.

15 bariballs...laziest kid on the team, besides schroeder. Fifteen Lucias will beat fifteen Barriball's. Which of the 15 Barriball's is going to work hard.
Walk on? Better find your facts there, because I dont by that for one bit. Kaufman was a walk on that earned a scholarship and so did Shack I believe. Not sure about Barriball ever being a walk on.

Not to be another spelling stickler, but if you are gonna correct someone else's spelling, you might as well spell it right. I think you all mean primadonna.PoniesDad45 wrote:Forgive me because I am not a spelling stickler, but "pre madonna"? LOLTigers33 wrote:The gophers need more players like T. Lucia, T. Matson, M. Lucia in my eyes is one of the better players on the team. What he lacks in skill he makes up for with determination and heart. He is by far my favorite gopher this year and might be one of my favorites of all time.Reggie Dunlop wrote:Tony Lucia would be lucky to make the squad at Anchorage or Mich Tech, let alone be a senior captain. I go to almost all of the home games and I agree that Lucia gives it his all, on just about every shift. He doesn't have a lot of natural scoring ability, but he's a very good passer, is good in the corners and rarely causes the turnovers that have really hurt the team at times this year. By no means is he a liability out there and if you're going to fault individual players you need to look elsewhere IMO. Overall he's the type of role player that every team needs to be successful.hawkhockey wrote:Lucia in my eyes is one of the better players on the team.
