Hill Murray (6-0-1) @ Mahtomedi (4-1) 12-19-09 3pm

Should be a good game. Hill beat SSP by 4, Maht beat them by 2. HUGE CSC game; winner moves into 1st, loser moves down to 3rd.

Yes it should be.

I would asssume Mahtomedi is back at full strength. The way Hill has had 38 Shots vs BSM, 39 vs WBL and 67 versus Simley as of late.. Mahtomedi will need to be ready to play. I would expect Ben Marshall to log 40 minutes for this game.

Hill has been solid, yet inconsistent...... Pretty soon, they will play a complete game. How will Hill handle Marshall?? Can they stop him? Hill will have to stay out of the box and keep Marshall from controlling the PP..

Despite the "injuries" Mahtomedi had at the beginning of the year, they seem to be in pretty good shape, and have had some nice success. It will be interesting to see how Mahtomedi handles Hill-Murray defector Charlie Sampair, who was instrumental to that program in the youth.

Will he get handshakes, or get run at??

Sampair is not the first "defector" to leave Mahtomedi to play for Hill. I suspect the fans will ride him & the players will take a shot if it presents itself. I don't expect anything cheap or poor sportsmanship from Mahtomedi. They have too much class.

I think H-M will handle Marshall just fine. If he logs that much ice time with the speed of the H-M forwards, he will be gassed by the end. I do think it will be a close game though as it seems the Pioneers have a difficult time getting the puck in the net at times.

Actually, an equally fair question is how will Sampair react.... Sometimes it's not that easy to play against friends. Are there any other Mahtomedi kids on the current roster?? I don't know...

Chucks a good kid, he should be fine.

HM and Maht are both pretty classy teams.

As for my prediction, HM is gonna take this one 5-1.

Edge in Nets goes to Wohlers. Mahtomedi plays a Physical game and could see that being a problem for Hill. Hill has speed and will be a problem for Mahtomedi's lack of depth.

Close game, should be a good one.

Mahto 4-2

Hill's depth in their offense will prove too much for Marshall to handle alone, he'll need some more help from his team. Hill has some solid D that will help, and as long as they stay out of the box they'll be good.

5-2 for Hill

Will it be Wohlers or Sawyer Marshall in nets?

Wow... sounds like a great game.... How much time was left when Mahtomedi made it 5-4??? Final minute nuts full of excitement?

Really good game. Mahtomedi made it 5-4 with about nine and a half minutes left and had a couple of good chances after that, including a blast from Ben Marshall that Shaugnessy made a nice pad save on.

The Pioneers have a lot of young (9th grade) talent on the JV level. Furture looks extremely solid.

I was thoroughly impressed with Luke Voltin (Blaine kid??) opening night vs Burnsville when he had 3 goals and 2 assists 8 minutes into the second period. He did virtually whatever he wanted on the ice. He even centered the 5 on 3 PK with the two captains, which by the way, Sova and the Def, are big strong 11th graders that make me wonder why they didn't make varsity.. Too slow??? Both are strong and can shoot..

But when I gave my scouting report to WBL, he didn't even show up. He actually looked sluggish - maybe even ill, because his energy level was night and day between the two games, and was a non-factor. I didn't see him on the ice too much even on PP or PK... so maybe he was ill.

I hope he has rebounded, because, even though I am in WBL, it's about watching special hockey players doing special things.... Same things goes to Mahtomedi's Marshall boys....

I would agree with goldfishdude. Luke Voltin is by far the most impressive 9th grader on the Hill team. I predict to see him playing some varsity by the end of the season.

Let's not forget about Lavalle who's seeing a regular shift on the varsity and putting the puck in the net the past several games. The future looks great!

based on these posts I assume Voltin is strictly J.V. I always thought Hill did not float players back and forth between varsity & j.v., that the rosters were set, but I guess you can't ignore talent.

Speaking of Mahtomedi's Marshall boys, what are the chances they will both be on the same roster next year ?

His USA National Team eligibility was during his sophomore and junior years (late birthdate).
