What's going on with all the scoring?
According to the stats at MNHockeyHub, there are about 25 players currently averaging 3 or more pts/game. The top three are Lane, Decowski and Bjugstad who are all averaging just over 4 pts/game. This seems real high as this would project out to over 20 players finishing the regular season with 75 pts or more. I believe that last year, we finished with about 5 players reaching that level.
Of course, some shedules get tougher for some teams, and defenses should tighten up, but this pace still seems unually high. Is this a gifted class? Is there more disparity between good teams and bad teams which racks up more points?

Decowski
Decowski has 12 points (half of his 24) vs. North Metro, who Andover has already played twice, and another 7 vs. Coon Rapids (next to bottom w/NM). When Andover starts playing the top 5 NWSC teams his scoring will come down considerably. With Cambridge and Coon Rapids on their schedule (both in the next 5 games) the stat padding should continue. He will have a high overall average, but let's see what he's done against good teams by the end of January.

It seems to me as though the teams seem to be keeping the foot on the pedal for a majority of the blowout games as well. A simple 7 or 8 nothing game now means little as a win for your respective squad, but now simply a chance to score half a dozen points for your "horse" looking to lead the state in points. That game a few years back when Moorhead embarrassed Monticello in Sections was like 22-0 and something unheard of, minus a couple Centennial games in 2004, and that was an uncommon thing. Now it seems as though coaches are more interested in getting their stars' points and care less about humiliating their opponent. Class is a thing of the past it seems and hard to come by anymore, it is sad but come to be the norm.

No, they have to have smaller pads starting in 2011. Youth started this year on the small pad rule.lugnutguy21 wrote:I believe this is the first year all goalies have to have the smaller pads?

Are you sure? I thought I saw a thread on that topic last year (season).4AAhockeystud wrote:No, they have to have smaller pads starting in 2011. Youth started this year on the small pad rule.lugnutguy21 wrote:I believe this is the first year all goalies have to have the smaller pads?
