Absolutely agree HSHockey, after Lee went down, O'Reilly really came through. He moved pretty freely on the ice and was in serious sniper mode!!

I'm hoping West can hang tough with East tomorrow night, but we'll have to see because those East forwards can sure score. Right, Black Ice?
OU812, do you see many of West's games? I'd be interested in your analysis of the team so far if so.

So it sounds like many of the people in here see East as the winner tonight?

East v West

Post by OU812 »

West has been pretty quiet offensively so far, and has also taken a ton of penalties (I think they have been on the PK more than any Big 9 team this year). When the Scarlets cut down on penalties against New Prague, they did much better. It has not helped to lose Weber for the season. As for the new coach, I think the players are confident in Coach Doell and his staff.

I'd say East is a 2 or 3 goal favorite tonight, based on the scores so far. Billiar, Ries, and Willaert are scoring a ton. The top 12 scorers for East are all seniors, and many are playing their fourth year of varsity hockey. For West, Campbell is still the SouperStar, and he should be fun to watch tonight. I'm also curious to see what kind forechecking West does; seems like once the puck gets broken out to the talented East forwards, that's when the trouble starts for Cougar opponents.

Of course, these East and West players played together in youth hockey coming up, so everybody knows everybody on the ice (and in the stands). With the East v West girls game right beforehand, it should be a great crowd tonight at All Seasons.

Since West has blown out East in the last 6 meetings I think most East fans would settle for at least a close game. Last win for East was an '06 section game.

Not to nit pick in anyway at all but it was Winona 7 Holmen Aquinas 1

bad 2nd period by Winona ( up 3-0 after the first, 4-1 after the second) but they played a weak Wisconsin team and just took it to them overall.

West 4, East 3

What a great game to watch. East goes up 3-0 after the first, then West comes back with four goals in the second. Both teams played well, shots were about even, and the third period was a battle. Hats off to the East players and fans. For West, it was a major pick-me-up. Hopefully now they can turn things around a bit.

Mayo doesn't have any pure scorers but this team is made up of a bunch of scrappy players that wait for the chances. Against Farmington the puck just didn't drop there way. I don't know how many times they hit the pipe but I guess that is no excuse. Mayo was the better team but it just wasn't there night. It was a good game nevertheless.

When Mayo's first and second lines are clicking, they can completely control a game. Against Farmington Mayo had them pinned down in their zone for 5 minute stretches at a time, and like itech said, put 3 off the crossbar. The game really could have gone either way and both teams know that.

Does that mean you WOULD like to face them since you used a double-negative?

Mayo does bring some nice energy to the game but they don't finish very well most nights. They should have beat Farmington, but big deal, they are an average team. Mayo has a long way to go if they want to think about making some real noise, but things are looking up from the past few games. They need to stop making stupid mistakes that lead to easy goals and learn to finish their chances way better if they want to beat some of the better teams.

Austin is a disgrace to high school hockey. I have seen bantam teams with more skill, and possibly at the pee wee level

Eastview beats Mayo 10-2, and then JM beats Eastview? What is the story there?
