Composite Individual/Player Stats
So, I hear some concern about the Individual Stats being posted by papers, etc. I decided to pull stats from three locations (including 2 papers...) and make one list of top scorers and goaltenders. Once complete I'll post that list here. The three sources I will use are:
1) Star Tribune's "GameFace MN" site (which is part of a larger web network that includes stats called in to the Strib each night plus anything entered by coaches online):
http://preps.startribune.com/stats.php? ... &sport=110
Scoring Leaders (Points):
http://preps.startribune.com/stats.deta ... s&dir=desc
Goaltending Leaders (SV%):
http://preps.startribune.com/stats.deta ... T&dir=desc
2) MGHCA's "Stat Rat" site (which was created by the MGHCA for coaches to enter stats online):
http://www.mghca.com/page/show/115184-leaders
Scoring Leaders (Points):
http://www.mghca.com/subseason/stats/26 ... r_dir=DESC
Goaltending Leaders (SV%):
http://www.mghca.com/subseason/stats/26 ... r_dir=DESC
3) Pioneer Press weekly stats (posted each Tues based on what coaches submit by Sun prior):

You must have a lot of time to waste. Unless all teams post the stats to all games you will never truly have an accurate list. Just from games played on Saturday there is seven games (14 teams) that stats were not updated for on the MGHCA website. The same thing happens on the rest of the websites your going to pull the data form.

Re: 12/22 AM Scoring Leaders
It's quite an undertaking, but, IMO, stats are very hard to interpret. Some teams do not post them, some can't post them correctly, heck rarely have I seen the scoring completly correct for any of the games I've watched this year. Add Strength of Schedule to the mix and stats really can muddy the picture. Just my 2 cents.

Agreed... Plus some teams seem to have a lot of phatom points - always a first and second assist, etc. Some teams are better about these being accurate, some don't care as it's just about the team and not individual stats... SOS should be considered I agree and agreed too on reporting, general accuracy, etc.wild77 wrote:It's quite an undertaking, but, IMO, stats are very hard to interpret. It was interesting to track how the three sources had different numbers for the same player and so I just took the max of the three in those cases. Note that I cut the list at 20 pts or more for essentially a top 50 at this point.
The problem I'm having now is to sort goalies by SV% or GAA and no matter what I'm making a cutoff of 40% of the max MIN played. Plus, I can't use the Pioneer Press data in goalie stats as they have no info. on MIN played, etc. Although I do see that almost all players that are in the Pioneer Press are also in at least one of the other two sources.

Goaltending Leaders (by SV% where MIN Played > 40% Max and SV%>0.875):ghshockeyfan wrote:See:

I had a little time to waste this AM and got this set up... Maybe I'll run it once a week???puck123 wrote:You must have a lot of time to waste. I actually forgot one source... The MSHSL site - but that's a pain as there are no "leader boards" that it pulls all the stats into... So, that will be a little more work to gather.
My guess is that coaches/teams aren't submitting all to the same site (obviously) and some don't do it at all (which is fine if they're just focusing on playing the game, not the stats, etc.).
I suppose if you take the two papers (counting the GameFaceMN Strib site) plus MGHCA StatRat and the MSHSL that you'd get the best stat collection you could. Never going to be 100% of course but far better than any one site.
The same is probably true of rankings... Take the LPH poll, QRF, and KRACH and average them and that's probably best... Hmm...
