This tounament seems to be much weaker than in years past....the top bracket with Century, Fargo South, and Brainerd will win the title...the bottom bracket is interesting...if Mayo is going to be a real threat to anything they should be able to beat one of the worst Lake conf teams.

1st: Century
2nd: Mayo
3rd: Fargo South
4th: New Richmond
5th: Brainerd
6th: Eastview
7th: Princeton
8th: JM

Anyone know why Buffalo and Hastings pulled out of the tournament this year?

Hastings is probably sick of getting jobbed by the officials and it's probably better for all involved that they're not here. From one year where Century had 11 straight power plays and a 15-3 advantage in power plays to Welch getting ejected last year by a ref who really had no business even being there. The officiating is what it is, there are lots of tournements and these guys are also probably using vacation days to be there, 3 straight days doing 2 games a day, it has to be pretty physically and mentally taxing.

In the AA bracket the top 3 teams are all on the top bracket; Brainerd, Century, and Fargo South. Princeton is in the top bracket as well and have a win over Coon Rapids, a team JM was beaten by 4-1, so it's very possible the best 4 teams are all on the top bracket. Eastview plays a better schedule than any of the teams on the bottom but they've been shut out 3 times and only have 1 win to go with 6 losses. New Richmond lost to Owatona 6-0 and Lourdes 4-1, neither Rochester school has done much this year and are a combined 5-11. Just a hunch but places 1, 3, 5, & 7 will come out of the top .

In the A bracket Dodge County, an AA team, makes an appearance along with Mason City. Mason City intrigues me because back in the late '90's when my kids were at Lourdes we played them and usually got beat by them but Lourdes went on to win the section. Then Iowa high schools dropped out of the NFHS in hockey and could no longer play Minnesota teams from what I remember. It's their first games against Minnesota teams this season. From the outside the A bracket looks a lot more wide open than the AA. Just a guess....1) Int Falls 2) Central, 3) Lourdes although any of these 3 teams are capable of losing their first round game.

I'm not sure about Buffalo, But Hastings took Woodbury's place in the South St. Paul tourney, since Woodbury accepted a spot in the St Louis Park Tourney.

==========
AA Bracket Round 1
==========

Brainerd vs Fargo South

I don't think South is that strong this year, but I think looking at a small recap of Brainerd that they can pull through over them in the first round. However, South has no depth to them and their only defense is their goaltender (who is very good, however). Should be close.

Princeton vs Century

Assuming what I know of Century, they should walk through Princeton. I am not that schooled in Minnesota hockey, however.

-----

Eastview vs Mayo

This should be close, but I'll take Eastview over Mayo.

New Richmond vs John Marshall

Rooting for JM because they always seem to be the punchin bag in this tournament. The top bracket is definitely stronger than the bottom though.

=============
AA Bracket Round 2
=============

Century vs Fargo South

South is way down, Century seems to be doing rather well. I see this possibly turning into a blowout if Century can crack South's tender. If they can't it could be trouble. If both teams play well and it is a hard fought game Century should walk away with it no problem. If it's a lazy game that Century just comes to play, South will get outshot but they'll be able to sneak past them because of a cold tender. I definitely see Century in this one though, South is just too down.

-----

Eastview vs John Marshall

Assuming New Richmond doesn't surprise me, Eastview should walk through this game (either team that won the 3rd game should). This is definitely a lighter bracket.

==========
AA Bracket Round 3
==========

Century vs Eastview

Century should walk with this one. Actually probably easier than the semifinal game because Eastview's goaltender has been getting lit up as of late and is going to be a lot shakier.
