Should be an interesting three games for North Branch. They're an improving program but have never played against this caliber of competition. Great to see they are striving to become better and it gives us hope that our sons will have a good program to play for in 7-10 years. Hope they have a good showing.

There may not be 8 teams in it but should be a good weekend of hockey. Not the same teams as past years but still looks competitive.

Is Keller (Texas) a high school team, or one of those traveling AAA Bantam squads? I can't imagine Texas having too extensive of a high school league.

I have decided to answer my own question! Teak answering Teak.

It looks like this Keller is a club team from the Keller Independent School District. They are called Keller ISD and they play in the Silver Division of the Texas league.

Here is a link to their latest game report:

Loss forces team to focus more on game ahead
Keller Hockey
By JOHN ENGLISH

The Keller Varsity Silver hockey team lost to Richardson on Thursday night, 6-5, after leading 5-4 heading into the final period of play.

Even worse, Richardson only had six shots on goal in the contest, and is the only other loss on the Silver team’s schedule this season, who moved to 10-2 with the defeat.

What? They lost 6-5 and the team that beat them had only six shots on goal? That means the Keller goalie made 0 saves??

The Varsity Silver team received a great honor recently, when it was invited to play in the prestigious Granite City Classic, the oldest hockey tournament in the state of Minnesota, on Dec. 27-29.

Let's hope their goalie gets some practice time in before the puck drops. I suspect that the author of the report made a mistake in the shots-on-goal statistic. But I love the title! Since we lost, we have to focus on the next game. If they had won, no need to focus on the next game??

Keller played in the Thief River Falls tournament last year and were not even close to being competitive.

I didn't want to, but I did too. Seems like all these teams are struggling this year.

My beloved LF along w/ St. Cloud Apollo and SRR are a combined 3-20-1. Tech is 3-3 w/ no quality wins. NB is 4-2-1, but is hardly considered a powerhouse and probably not favored in this tournament. I understand "good" means different things to different people, but to call these teams "good" is a stretch. Maybe the jury is still out on Tech.

That Texas team got smoked by Apollo, I guess that pretty much sums up the quality of that team...

That game was pretty much all Apollo from the start it seems like, nice to see the boys from Apollo step up and get a win, a good 7-2 win.
