Minnetonka (8-0) vs. St Thomas (5-1) 12-29-09

Just got back, some thoughts:
STA seemed to control most of the play outshooting Tonka but the 2 quick, early goals by Tonka really hurt STA. Some questionable calls didn't go in favor of STA. They had a disallowed goal and Tonka was given credit for a goal after the whistle blew. I'm not sure what to make of that. I think the teams are really evenly matched even though Tonka has won these 2 games this year. STA is faster thank Tonka but smaller. Gardiner ( i think thats right) was hurt in the game and did not return. It looked like he may have broken his arm the way they were holding it when he went left the ice. Altrichter played awful and to me, is STA's only questionable spot right now.

Maybe, just maybe Minnetonka is a better team??? I think so.

Yes, Tonka probably is the better team but after the first 1:30 of the game today, it was played very evenly.breakout wrote:deacon wrote:Just got back, some thoughts:

2 goals in a game should also be questionable, along with giving up 5deacon wrote:Just got back, some thoughts:

How is the 2 quick goal this game different than the 2 quick goals by STA last time they played? Other than that Tonka overcame being down by 2 and STA wasn't able to?deacon wrote:Just got back, some thoughts:

Tonka again had every goal from a different player as they did against AHA. Both STA goals on the powerplay, no even strength goals.
no doubt.wingmaster wrote:2 goals in a game should also be questionable, along with giving up 5deacon wrote:Just got back, some thoughts:

I didn't say it was any different, I wasn't at the first game so I can't comment on it. All I said was that after the first 1:30, the game was played very evenly.Gov78 wrote:How is the 2 quick goal this game different than the 2 quick goals by STA last time they played? Lets not pass any judgement but i just got done watchin the MAXIM hottest 10 home town hotties. WOW. As for the two teams, Minnetonka would have an obvious slight edge based on seniority. From my knowledge Tonka has four seniors that are D1 commits and STA has two senior commits. I believe STA has only 4 seniors that get regular playing time and one is the goalie. Both teams are really talented and it would have been interesting if the questionable "goal/not goal calls" calls would would have gone the other way? I think both teams are the unquestioned favorites in both there classes to win state of right now. Should be GREAT games on Friday.

Maybe in a third game STA would win. But, it's the outcome that matters. Tonka has proven to be the better team.
Any news on Gardiner's injury?

In events like this it comes down to goaltending:
Blaine-Edina shots 35-29 in favor of Blaine and Edina wins (3-2)
Blaine-STA - shots 35-31 in favor of Blaine and Blaine wins (4-1)
If you ignore goaltending for the sake of comparing the skaters I think they rank this way:
Skaters only: Blaine, STA, Edina
Include Goal Tending during Schwan's: Edina, Blaine, STA
Bottom line is Ankeny is very hot right now and overall these teams are pretty even... STA has a challenge in the net IMHO

I cant believe how many excuses you STA fans have. First game against Tonka the excuse was they lost Isaakson. Second game they blame it on goaltending. Maybe you just arent that good. By the way, Tonka lost Gardiner in the second period of the second game and continued to play hard and came away with the victory unlike STA when they folded when they lost Isaakson

knowitall,
I just read all the posts in this thread and didn't read one excuse. I wouldn't say they "just arent that good" as their only three losses are twice to the #1 team in state and their third is probably to the #3 team in state. That being said, they are comments on the game.
From the sounds of it, if Breck would've held onto their lead and won, most would've said the better team lost. They are comments about the game. You can play an even game and lose by 3 goals.
Not an excuse, but it looks like the goalie position is where the team is shaky. The competition has been good and he did shut out a WBL team that beat Holy Angels, but 3.22 GAA and 87.6% save percentage is not good. Too bad McNeely left.

Never mind MHS didn't have Holl for all of the 1st game. I too hear excuses rather than simply stating they got beat fair and square. STA is a very good team regardless so is that hard to simply say they got beat without adding but but but?knowitall wrote:I cant believe how many excuses you STA fans have.
