They only game I saw was the Championship which was a great game - pack house, lots of action.

After regulation it was 1-1 with EP and Stillwater. 8 minutes of OT went by an still 1-1.

After a 5 player shoot-out, it was 3-3. Then another 5 player shoot-out and the little sisters of the St. Croix get lucky and win 4-3 in a thriller OT 10 player shoot out.

EP had 5 penalities in the 3rd period and OT...compared to the ponies 1 penalty

Hats off the MacKenzie Johnson (The 9th Grade EP goalie) who has and did play incredible all season and tonight she played awesome! Stillwater's goalie played very, very well as well..

And the only goal the the little ponies got in regulation was on a Penalty shot on a total bunk penalty called by the refs in the 2nd period....

Those little ponies outshot EP 42-25 including a 12-3 advantage in OT. Both teams had chances but Stillwater had alot more. Eden Prairies goalie was the difference until the shootout where Stillwaters was outstanding stopping 7 of 9 chances compared to 5 of 9 for EP goalie

More than half of those 45 shots came on the 7 or 8 Power Plays. Any decent team should be able to get 20 or so shots with 7 or 8 PP's... don't be too excited hockeywild....

Our goalie did play extremely well, like she has all year long..

The only way you could score was during the shoot-out - good for you. No big deal.

On to the next game...

Sounds like EP fans still have a sense of entitlement left over from the long-gone glory days. With the new transfer rule in place you're just going to have to get used to being mediocre.

But if we are mediocre and you are the State Champs from last year and you team can't score a goal against us, other than a penalty shot and go Zero for 8 on Power Plays, what does that make you....?

Less than mediocre or Lower..?

The cupboard at EP is far from bare. The 12A team is one of the best if not the best team in the state. They may have a few down years by EP standards (A top 20 team instead of a top 5 team), but the future looks pretty bright.

Like I said earlier the Stillwater EP game was one of the best girls games I have watched in along time. Both teams played hard and missed chances but to say stillwater could only score on a penalty shot is sour grapes. The penalty shot was a correct call for the situation and the stillwater player made it. Not sure why that shouldnt count. EP couldnt put the puck in the net either because both goalies as stated earlier, played excellent. But thats all part of the game some nights goalies are the difference. Also Stillwater did not have 8 powerplays, they had 4 and EP had 2. How many shots did EP get on the PP or doesnt that count? You are stretching the truth a bit here. Both teams had some of their best chances on them but goalies came up big. I am a stillwater fan, but more than willing to give EP all the credit they deserved and their goalie was the difference. She stopped 41 of 42 shots and deserved to get the number one star of the game.

Looks like EP should be a program on the rise and with the demographics and size of the school makes sense.

I have heard the Stillwater program will drop off after this year anyone there able to comment on the Stillwater youth program and the future? I am always amazed at how many future Ponies attend games.

Who has the most shots doesn't make the better team. Where were the shots? How many on the PP and where from? How many scoring chances? Which team did the refs favor??????? (sorry still bitter from our game last night/flashback)

Note that GameFaceMN (Strib) and others have the 12/29 SLP/SA vs EP score reversed - EP did win 3-0

I agree shots don't tell the whole story but in this case they did. Stillwater has never recruited players and to suggest is a cheap shot on a great program coach Scheid has built with alot of hours working with the youth programs.

Agree recruit is not Schied's style and many have built a strong youth culture......but girls from outside of Stillwater have enrolled and played there all legitimately - there is a current player or two from Woodbury and the goalie a couple of years ago came in from Hudson.

Never heard anything but positive things re: Schied and the Stillwater program. The academics and school probably attract student-athletes as much as anything - and it helps to have a better or becoming rich hockey tradition. Stillwater is no EP, SSP, or Roseville as far as Dynasty-like girls programs but I'd say they're building/moving in that direction. Interestingly I'd say of these 4 programs that Stillwater has built as much as any from within but may end up with the transfers that just want to play in well-established hockey rich programs like those that went to EP, SSP, or RV in the past. The new MSHSL Open Enrollment rules will make it harder but... Also Stillwater is the natural choice as far as geographic proximity for those in WI that want to play MN HS Hockey...
