Even though there are some good teams, to me it looks like the schedulers decided to get the Championship game over with in the first game of the tourney.

And they wanted to give the home team a shot at the finals.

Certainly the best "store bought" team.

Minnetonka 2, Roseville 1 in a 10 player shootout. A very fast paced game after a somewhat slow first period. Don't know shots on goal but I suspect they were low for both teams. A lot of fore and back checking. Roseville scored in the first period (Brausen) and Minnetonka in the third (Ramsey).

If Minnetonka wins this tournament, I suspect they will go into AA first with Irondale second.

I understand that. So did the two Stillwater SO wins.

Indeed - and agreed that it will be interesting to see how the LPH rankings end up post-holiday tourney!

Forgot to add, tomorrow's final pits Minnetonka against Warroad. They played several weeks ago in Warroad to a 3-3 tie. Roseville plays Eastview for the consolation.

Anyone at these games last weekend? Was Warroad really five goals better than Minnetonka, or were there some empty net goals maybe? Judging from some of the scores the Warriors are putting up this year they could possibly make a strong case for best team in the state, but too bad they are in class A, much like the strong SSP teams of a few years back.

If you go by stats alone they looked pretty even,
but we all know that stats do not show the whole picture,
Could have been one Goalie was Hot that day and one was Not,
Will be interesting to hear from both sides,

Not witnessing the game myself I can’t really comment on what took place. However, in my opinion… Warroad is that good. They have all the ingredients for success. A shut down goalie, several blue chip players, a core group of battle tested supporting players and quality coaching. But what makes them a little different is…are you ready for this…it’s huge…sure you’re ready…okay here it is…THEY PLAY TO WIN!!!!

The secret is they’re not concerned about making everyone feel good about them selves, they don’t play a third…ugg forth line because they’re under the illusion that their little princess are going to get tired or worn down come February… or because darn it, little Susie deserve it for simply showing up these past ten years. They play it the way it’s suppose to be done at the High School level… preparation, expectation, responsibility, accountability which ten leads ultimately to execution. Their only mistake was not following their arch rival to Class AA…could have been a contender (think Brando).
No...they are that good because they simply do it the right way...I mean... in my opinion that is.

I like the strong opinion. I tend to agree especially the little Susie example. I think coaches should always take the best players however "the best" is subjective and there are times when little Susie is a good fit for the team due to her good leadership and/or her locker room presence. What I don't like is when players make it ONLY because they stuck around for a long time or when better players are bypassed ONLY because there is a spot is given to a less talented senior based solely on seniority.

Little Susie must have played for warroad the first game as I see they tied minnetonka. Or maybe minnetonka didnt play little susie the first game but the coaching staff decided she was an upper classman and put in alot of hours and was a good kid so they played her against warroad in the tournament.

Score doesn't always tell the score. Fluke goals, bounces, refs ( had to throw that in) scoring chances etc. Take for instance MV 3 Roseville 1. WBL 9 MV 1. MV probably played there best and worst games and will probably play WBL closer next game.

Something tells me if Warroad and Mtka played again Mtka might win.

I think you are exactly right Melvin. One score does not make or break a season. Too many factors to judge a team by one game. The one thing I would say is it looks like Warroad may be peaking at the right time of the season.

I think this is the most balanced season yet. Just look at the scores. Roseville beats Edina, Edina beats Stillwater, Moundsview beats Roseville, Hastings beats Stillwater, WBL beats Stillwater, Stillwater beats Roseville, Stillwater beats Minnetonka, Roseville ties Minnetonka, etc...

The only team that has consistently won is Irondale but I'm not ready to say that Irondale is the dominant team (yet I am impressed and I think they are peaking at the right time). Unlike years past, I really don't think there is one or two dominant teams. I think this will be the best AA State Tournament yet. No disrespect to any team and I'm not suggesting that these will be the participants but IF the highest QRF ranked team in every section made the State Tournament the lineup would look like this:

1AA Lakeville South
2AA Edina
3AA Hastings
4AA Roseville
5AA Irondale
6AA Hopkins
7AA Elk River
8AA Roseau

I think the Tournament officials will have a hard time seeding this year's State Tournament. Last year most people weren't surprised to see Stillwater and Hopkins in the Championship and 2 years ago I don't think anyone was surprised that EP won. This year will be the first year that I think there will be a first round upset or two in the Girls Hockey State Tournament. This year is shaping up to be the most exciting and unpredictable Girls Hockey State Tournament yet.
