It was a fun game to watch between these traditional AA powers. Ooppss, my bad. I just realized that unlike HM, STA refuses to opt up & play with the big boys. I guess this kinda diminishes the quality of the win for the Pioneers since it came against a Class A team. Maybe the Vanelli Brothers are right afterall, STA belongs in Class A and just can't run with the big dogs.

It isn't that the Vannelli's don't want a move to AA. Other STA officials don't agree with it. Why? Never heard a good reason for it. Either A or AA great talent will gravitate to the Vannelli bros so they'd have no reason to be against it. I imagine publically they would never express a contrary opinion to whatever statement from STA Czars. But HM was the better team just long enough to win. However its doubtful they'd be able to do it a 2nd time this year.

We made it through about 35% of the season with no opt up threads; guess someone finally had to break the silence. I just can't wait until the day there are 35 more teams in the state and we can have three classes.

All I will say is "it's a class system, not a tier system" and leave it at that. I could be wrong, but if we divided classes evenly (instead of 64 or less in the all but the bottom class) I think St Thomas would probably be up there.

PPG... Hats off to your Pioneers..

I caught a little web action, and the reason I was going with STA was because I thought Shaughnessy was the little bit softer goalie than Altrichter, but it appeared that when the game was 2-2, he made a couple dandy saves to protect the score, and the Coonskin Cap Clan will need that type of play going into sections up to the State Championship game.

Hill-Murray "Pioneers" ... Hmmmmm ... Begs the question: Why not Hill-Murray "Hillbillies"? Pioneers is bit of a reach ain't it? :-k

I actually prefer the nickname "Hillbilies". They had a sweet ride and I think we could do wonders with a logo on a jersey! :)

PPG,

I believe it was 4-0 Hill Murray.

Fun game to have a rematch of the Schwan Cup JV Championship just 1 week later.

You know!! I think you're on to something. My ancestors were Pioneers and I take offense to the name Pioneers. It needs to be changed.

I was kinda taking a liking to the Hill-Murray Immigrants, since the population base comes from all over the map.

(all my ex-inlaws come from H-M, so relax)

So.. back to the game.... It appeared H-M's 3 lines were just too much for STA.. I heard Charlie Sampair's name alot on the broadcast.

Can someone describe the actual game performances without the Cadets-Pioneer color...:)

There are no stats posted yet but score indicates a very even game. My guess is the 3 lines were fairly even and it came down to goaltending in the end... What were the shots on net like...? Not sure why the stats aren't posted yet on MNhubhockey...

Brief sysnopsis of the game. Scoreless after 1 with pretty even play. Hill went up 2-0 in the second and carried a little more of the play. STA scored laster in the 2nd to make it 2-1 after 2. STA score right away in the 3rd and it was "game on". HM scored late in the 3rd and got another via ENG. Both teams had chances in the 3rd & Shaughnassy made a big save to presrve the win.

On of the biggest keys to Hill right now is the play of their 3rd line. They haven't had to rely on the "top line" to score every game which takes a little pressure off. Also, everyone feels vital to the team and has confidence to contribute. Hopefully they play well on Saturday and basically eliminate Tartan from the conference race & lock up the #1 seed.

ohhhhhh did I get a nice chuckle out of this..

On a serious note, Lavalle has been playing huge for a frosh.. for H-M.

H-M goals were Bahe (#6) Jordan Johnson (2), Holler (5) and John Phillippi (2)...... STA - Kroska (4) Graveline (1)... Looks like both team's top line even out... H-M sure does have nice depth, as to why I mentioned Sampair's name was heard alot on the broadcast.

Good call on the three lines for HM, although STA has two very good lines they are getting little out of their third...this is a little different scenario than past years...I guess they missed out on an influx of Lakeville kids this year.
