Here's my top 10. Only top three are in order and I've seen all these teams play at least one time. STMA and their goaltending could see them at the top at end of year. My pick for Fargo is STMA. Tonka beat STMA in EP tourney but Minnetonka has to be more consistant. Elk River just looks really good to me. Wayzata is deep and appears to have some really good high end players. Maybe Waconia is surprise but their win over EP was good win for them. I think Jefferson is a good team that can knock any of these teams off on any night. Edina can always pull an upset. OMG is good but not top 10 right now. Moundsview is good too. Rosemount has 4 losses and is not top 10.

I wouldn't hang your hat to high on winning that tourney, that's not the toughest competition
True enough but that gives the ponies 2 tourney wins (Brooklyn Park and Rochester) and a 3rd in Edina. Probably should have won the Edina tourney as well.

Great hardworking group of kids.
Heard the Rogers game was a one goal game. Are they a dangerous team?

Why is Minnetonka in there with a loss to a non top twenty team like Burnsville? I see them in the second tier too.. I thought that Lakeville North would be in there but they haven't been consistent either. Lots of teams in Squirts use league games to test new line ups and gear up for tourneys.. so I would look at tourney matchups more than league games to rate your teams.sorta oposite than the peewees on up. Should be more evident after this weeks bloomington tilt.. any other tourneys out there this weekend to watch?

if yes, relax, it's only squirts. 8)

I'm sure he's having fun just playing a game he loves with his buddies....

Sorry, where do I find out scores for the crappy team tournaments. Is this a youth hockey forum or snob central?

The list looks pretty good. Still not sure you can separate those top three.

Wayzata maybe (not many games and competition so far has been suspect) but not the rest. They all have some specific weaknesses. Overall there seems to be no real leader of the pack. Seems to me if you want to separate 5 maybe you could put Wayzata, ER, STMA, Stillwater and Centennial, all with 2 losees or less and pretty much to each other or the best of the rest. I think any of these could win Fargo. STMA due to defense and goaltending. Wayzata and Stillwater are both DEEP, might help in a tough tournament if their goaltending hold up and they play smart. ER has a shorter bench and smaller kids, system is good but depth may hurt them in a tough tourney (although they came through Edina)

of the rest Jefferson probably should be up there, probably ahead of EP, Prior Lake, and Waconia. EP has good goaltending but the rest of their team looked suspect when I saw them. Lakeville South only has 2 loses both to good teams in EP and Centennial and both were 1 goal loses, probably deserve a little talk.

Still no talk about teams from up north. Anyone up there???Rapids, Hermantown, Cloquet

Roseau came down to EP and had a rough ride home.

I would like to hear what someone from centennial has to say, they have played most of the teams on the list...who was the toughest to play against? Maybe someone from Jefferson or Edina...they have seen most as well.

The only thing you can say for sure at squirt level this year is there is no dominant team. The list is probably 20 teams deep that could win a game against any of the teams posted. I have seen Wayzata, Edina, Stillwater, Burnsville, STMA, ER, EP, Lakeville North and Lakeville South, Prior Lake, Centenial, Rochester Red, CC, Minnetonka, Eastview and most any of them could beat any other on any given night. Every team has their strengths and weaknesses. Fargo will be an absolute free for all.

I didn't see it but from what I heard, the number of shots that Rogers had wasn't even in double digits. Draw your own conclusion

Wayzata should face some of the teams in "the pack" in Bloomington this weekend, if they fair well they would have to be the team to beat in Fargo

they are in a pool with Lakeville South, Rosemount and Prior Lake all who have been discussed in this thread.

Others in the tourney include Jefferson, Eastview, OMG, Edina, EP, Rochester.

Not an easy road. They have to be the favorite with no STMA,ER, Stillwater or Centennial there but good competition here.

That is funny! You don't know me or my posts. Im alway am ripping on everyone. I like stirrin the pot. No my kid didn't get cut, he isn't playing for Tonka and is playin with his buddies (I would be mad if he was #14 out of the over hundred kids that tried out) ... Now if you want my opinion and even if you don't. I think this year is a great year for Squirt hockey No dominate team, and many upsets in the making.... That is why I brought up Burnsville. Anyone can beat anyone this year and there are a lot of teams in the mix. One other team that deserves mentioning is Eastview. They beat Prior Lake and were on a run early in the year. Haven't heard anything about them. Most dominant teams at Squirts in the past have had one or two superstars that will carry the team and have a lot of second tier kids that can support the big gun. The only teams that I have seen this year like this is Stillwater. EP Has the guns but not the supporting ammo. Wayzata doesn't have the dominate player but has a great supporting cast. Prior lake is in the same boat as Wayzata but I think is deeper. Fargo is a toss up this year which will be great. I would be the Fargo Flyers even have a shot at winning their own tourney for once...

squirt assessment

Post by blueblood »

thanx for the reply. I think your posts are quite logical and entertaining to boot... :D

Someone once told me that your son's squirt hockey years will be the best. To some degree that has been true. He always talk about the one year he got to play in Fargo.

He's playing JGA for his second year now and is having fun like he did in squirts.

Let me guess Stillwater is in this tournament

Two best tournaments this upcoming weekend are Bloomington & Moorhead, top teams in both. It will be interesting to see how the Wisconsin Chosen Ones perform in Moorhead, I hope the lobby is large enough for all those big heads

Highly doubt the fire will be seriously challenged in Moorhead. Too much firepower, but if ER comes to play, they do have a solid net minder anything is possible I guess.

Tonka is a good team but defensively don't think they have the tools to compete with the fire.

Not sure of anyone in Breezy point that is why I am asking...

Sounds like good competition in Moorehead with Tonka, Fire and ER. Interesting to see if the association teams can hang with the Fire.

Stillwater is sitting this weekend out. We want to give some of the other squirt kids a chance to raise a trophy! :D :D :D

what teams has the 99 fire scrimmaged/played that are from associations so far? I would assume they have had some games with Minnesota associations. I am sure they haven't lost many(likely any) knowing who some of the kids are that are on this team.

Thanks for the Props.. I try not to take the hockey thing too serious but it is hard sometimes. As far as Fargo goes.... This will be my 4th year in a row heading to the tourney and I can't wait. Not so much for the hockey but for seeing all of my ol college rivals and buddies with their squirts talking smack and drinking a couple of adult bevies talkin about old times. My older son still talks about the games up there and the pin trading. Must be something special because he is still not willing to part with the pins and hand thm down to the younger ones to trade..Our kids already are talking about the weekend and they really think they got a shot...time will tell...
