WBL will suffer a 2 week suspension to every returning varsity player except for Brandon Wahlin and Ryan Wolter.
Channel 5 news will probably feed you B.S, they called all of the families and I've been given reports by parents that they were twisting the words of the people they contact, and even accused people who weren't at all involved in the incident.
These are good kids, don't believe everything that will be posted on this forum or in the media int he coming hours/days/weeks.
More later, but I need to run.

Eddie, How could you say he's not to be part of the blame, it's his team isn't it? I would also agree with putting blame on the players but somebody has to be the adult here and take over. Do we want to mention the program picture that was originally put out too? I will reserve my comments about Sager as much as I can as this thread is about the game this evening.

Okay, I was able to get to a computer.
So here it is- we've got a situation here where players got suspended for an initiation ritual. Now, I garuntee the news will play this story as an investigation into hazing at WBL. Without knowing the whole story, this situation appears disgusting and completely ridiculous.
The thing is, initiation is common all over, nearly every team has some kind of initiation ritual for their new players. The story at White Bear was that the new players were to run around bare-foot in the snow. They were fully allowed to say no, and talking to all of those players today they all agree. They were given that option clearly.
In my opinion, as a student and a hockey fan, is that this was a pretty big overreaction by the school. If your gonna give some punishment out for this, let it be by the coaches, at practice. Or, atleast punish the captains for allowing it to happen.
But the way I predict it going down is this, 5 eyewitness news goes on to tell a story (or mention it, we don't knwo if it'll even be on the news) about how the WBL avristy hockey team hazed the new players and put them in serious danger. There was some frost bite and blisters and that kind of thing, and that's incredibly unfortunate for those players. I am in no way saying that initiations are a good idea, or that no one is at fault. I personally believe that the whole thing lacked common sense. But no ones first thought was that running around in the snow was gonna send some people to the hospital.
The story is gonna come out makign WBL look like a terrible place, with horrible administrators and coaches. I attend WBL, It's a great school, with lots to offer. But they will no doubt single it out, and ridicule us to the core. I also have no doubt that this post will be lost in the sea of fourm arguements, hill-murray insult, and public school jokes.

This is really too bad...
How did the story get out, and will it only be a two week suspension?
I saw goldy listed something surrounding this on the board about a week ago........Goldy, Im sure you weren't the reason that this issue "hit the fan," but at the same time, I think this kind of information didnt need to be spread across an internet message board. Some things are better off keeping them to yourself.
Hopefully this two weeks will give some JV guys some good varsity experience, and and overall learning experience for the entire team. The players now have the ability to rebound from this unfortunate situation, and lead their team to a section title!!!!!!
As for Mr. Sager.....He has ZERO control over his team,(which has been the case for YEARS!) and I think its time for a change. Bring Ben Butters in and let him take over..Or even better, convince Hambly to take over the varsity job, and let the A bantams find a new coach. Hambly has ALWAYS done a great job at the bantam level, and I think he should get the opportunity to lead the HS team. (if he even is interested)
Go Bears!

WBL
wblhockeyfan8, I will not think any less about WBL hockey because of this unfortunately we live in a culture where nut jobs running public schools and media outlets overreact to everything. Stupid stunt yes, but not worth the over analysis and hand wringing.

This year there have been overwhelming parent coach contacts. The parents seem to be calling the coaches about every incident - big and small - this year. The kids apparently get along in the lockeroom and on the ice. It looks like the parents are the ones having a hard time this year. Its too bad for the varsity players who have been working very hard to make this a sucessful and enjoyable season. Maybe some of these parents should just stay at home, take a break from hockey and get a life......

I've been reluctant for years to say much about WB Varsity coaching for alot of reasons but new blood has been badly needed. Speaking from first hand experience in recent years on the subject of intolerance with hazing I can say that its obvious that nobody in the WB system takes the term 'hazing' and 'intolerance' seriously which is typical mentality of that area - sorry WB but its the truth. Its hard to believe that the kids are getting suspended over running barefoot in snow which leads one suspect that there was more to than that.
There is a long list of reasons why Sager should've made departure YEARS ago and The Hammer is as good
of candidate as any for the program. Last year Lex at H-M turned in his own players which resulted in game suspensions. I don't like the guy but his actions sent a message to the players. Yes the Hill guys 'crime' was worse than being alledgely barefoot outside but none the less I'm sure the players would never consider any form of hazing. On the other hand Sager's behavior and decisions are irratic and damaging on and off the ice for years. He's behavior drives talent out of WB to other schools or whats WORSE is he's in a power trip to crush innocent kids. Sager combined with the mentality up there has held the program back. Again, sorry but its the truth.
