Nice pick up. He'll like playing in a brand-new facility, that's for sure. :D

With his religious background, I'm surprised he's not going to HOLY CROSS.

UMD acceptance

Post by blueblood »

There was no room at the U with all of the players Lucia has "signed" for the next 2 years.

Smart choice going to UMD. More opportunity for playng time and a brand spanking new arena to boot.... 8)

(I hope a couple of them work out. But then again, if they don't, maybe they get Blais to clean up the mess. Ah, that's a whole new topic and discussion)

Ah, careful Gopher fans.

UMD currently sits #2 in the WCHA standings. SCSU is also ahead of the Gophs. Bemidji State? The Gophers are currently the 4th ranked college team in Minnesota.

At 40+ years old, it was the oldest facility in the WCHA. Rink is smaller than NHL size. Everything else about the facility, while nice when it was built (Huffer Christiansen era Image) was way past its prime.

The new DECC is going up next to the old DECC. It's taking up most of what was left of the parking lot.

The new DECC is being built in the parking lot of the old DECC. It was the oldest arena in the WCHA. It will be no Ralph but still very nice. There are pictures and a 3-D tour on www.decc.org. 1st game is UMD vs. UND on Dec. 31, 2010.

Right where they should be
Agreed, based on who they've played to date. Considering who they've played I wouldn't expect anything else; the first 4 games of the year were against ND and Denver. UMD beat UM by 1 twice at home, once in OT.

With the exception of their loss to MSU, the Gophers have not had a terrible season, but really no love in the polls. They started the year at 8, lose and tie to #4 ND, drop to 11. Then play #4 Denver, lose both and are off the rankings and have been since.

They are 6-2 in their last 8, hopefully we can host the Sioux this weekend well and get back in.

Anyway, congrats. Good city; would like to know about the new arena Lee is referring to...

Thanks!!!

The new barn looks great.... Plus when you factor in Duluth is such a cool-looking city, it shouldn't take much to convince a student-athlete to attend there if offered a chance.

Wow, that's nuts. Just looked at the pictures; why are they getting rid of the parking lot? What are they keeping the old rink/area for? Why not replace the old one instead of simply building a new one?

Lee, who needs parking when a guy can just waltz over from the Saratoga  to catch the Dogs.
