Duluth East at Grand Rapids 1-14-09 (Thursday)

Post by TheHockeyDJ »

Both teams have faced great competition this year. Grand Rapids is getting great goaltending right now, back to back shutouts against So. St. Paul and Duluth Marshall. Duluth East had a good effort at home in a tie vs. Blaine. If Duluth East wins, I don't think anything changes in the seedings, if Grand Rapids wins, then there is a major wrench thrown into this. I hope people in GR get to the rink and fill the place up for one of the best rivalries in the state.

I have been to Rapids, and I love the rink. The history on the walls with the pictures says alot.

No disrepect to the community, but, I can't see why there would be any other venue in Rapids to keep people away from a HS game. It should be filled virtually every game..

Although the awesome goaltending effort vs Duluth Marshall was huge for GR, East will be too much too handle.

East 4-1

this should be a good game. east has more depth of talent, but few teams play the gritty, hard nose hockey like GR. look for Patrick Moore to be a difference maker.

Normally this thread has three pages of trash talk by now. Where are all the Rapids people this year?

At any rate, East by a few.

This game is on myfoxhockey for those of you who didn't know.

Ah, I guess that answers my question. :x

East has no problem playing physical hockey...but IMO, they're a worse team when they do. They've got the edge in talent and the edge in depth in this one, and they need to milk that for all it's worth.

Debating between 130 mile trip to Roso for that rivalry game with Warroad or the 70 mile trip to Grand Rapids.

Go to Roseau. Depth will play a role in the outcome of this game, although another set of line changes for East may make a difference. One can never tell - that may be the understatement of the year. Ah thank you...

I think GR will win this one 3-2 they just got beat in a 'nail biter' by Hermantown which is by far a better team than the Hounds this season :P

Yes.. for me... but minor interuptions.

Just wanted to remind the Duluth people that Marshall couldn't score on 43 shots.... took like 3 for East.

Rapids going on a 5 on 3 PP for 1:19..

Underwood tallies on the 5 on 4 PP wiwth about 6:00 left.

1-1 end of 1. No shots reported. Other than the 5 on 3 PP, Grand Rapids hasn't done much offensively, as East appears to have controlled play. I would assume Jo Jo is in nets for the Hounds, and there were a couple times he looked like he was fighting the puck.

The score's 1-1, but I don't have a whole lot to complain about after 1; East's rolling 4 lines and they're all generating some good offense. Once again, the penalties hurt, but since they were taken on plays that were serious scoring chances I don't know how much I can fault them.

And Goldy, Perlinger is in net for the Hounds.

Are you getting the feed? If so, good!!! Ummmm.. why isn't Jo Jo in nets?? So, I wasn't imagining when I thought the goalie was fighting the puck...

Yeah, the feed's good...unfortunately, I do not like what I see at all now.

Not sure why the goalie switch made. Jo Jo didn't have a very good 3rd period in the Tonka game, but no one did, really, so I'm not sure if that was enough.

Great response by the Hounds; as long as they can stay out of the box in the 3rd I like their chances. They just need to keep pounding away.

I loved the PP goal...I know some people don't like tons of passing around the perimeter without any shots, but it worked perfectly for Welinski and Randolph there.

Welinski looked like he had three open lanes and kept pushing it back to Randolph. I was a little surprised there was little movement to do any backdoor action, but, it had to be a heckuva shot by Welinski to go untipped and to beat Foss, who looks like a pretty solid goalie.. He had no chance on the third goal as that pass to the slot was perfection.
