After some further research, I will have to say that Moorhead takes this one home. They currently have 7 runner up finishes without a championship. That is 4 more than Warroad who has been the runner up 3 times and SSP has 2 runner up finishes.
BTW, White bear lake has had 17 appearances with:
1st Place- 0
2nd place-0
3rd place-0
I think that this can definitely be deemed the one and done team of the state tournment

First one that comes to mind is obviously Moorhead. They have had a very strong program for the past 20 years, give or take (not sure how good they were pre 1990). Since then they have had some very talented players that have gone on to the NHL, minors, and D1. They have also had a few very good teams. If one of those teams would have won a title, they would have been considered one of the better teams of all time.
After I read the stats on WBL it was an eye opener. 17 times at state and never placed, wow. Defenitly a contender in this thread but not enough to overcome Moorhead.
SSP, they seem to be at opposites with the spuds. They were good back in the day but haven't produced much lately. THey have definitly had their chances but can't quite get it done. I think they come in 2nd to the spuds.

Nobody may agree with me but IMO i think comments like this say more about the ppl that post them and causes them to lose more respect than any so called "scrapper" team! You are on this site im thinking because you are a hockey fan or are at least "supposed" to be. What could you possibly get out of degrading other players that have spent most of their lives working their tails off and loving this game just because they go to a smaller school? Did they have a choice of where their parents decided to live and find jobs and raise a family? I think not. Did they have a choice in their school deciding what class their sports programs played in? No.HockeyMN1 wrote:ACTUALFORMERPLAYER wrote:I think it's a toss up between Warroad and St. Thomas Academy.![]()

Ohhhhhhhh! HAHAHAHA, I totally agree, they want respect and then stay in the scrapper class.
What about other HS sports like basketball both boys and girls or football, how many classes there 4-5? Don't know if you did but i'm assuming you did go to a large school. Does that make you better than someone from a small school? I think not so why demean a fellow athlete. Why should the kids in any sport be prohibited from playing for a state title "in their class"? In "most" cases a school of a few hundred could not possibly ever compete with some of the schools that have thousands. Hockey is one of the few that a few of the small school can and do compete with the big schools and play them with success regularly. More so than other HS sports. Anyways like i said i don't get where anyone gets off beating their chest because they went to a large school that plays AA. You had nothing to do with it either. It was your parents choice of where to live not yours so get over yourself. But by the way IMHO i think the privates should be playing AA.
These stats don't even reflect all the years they were very good, but ran into Roseau in sections and never even made the state tournament.td577 wrote:Moorhead -- By a lot. Being from Roseau certainly puts me at odds to name Moorhead for anything, but their state tournament winning percentage and second place finishes puts them heads and shoulders above the rest. I almost feel sorry for them.
Nobody is ripping on the kids or parents here. It is the program, AD, coaches. I believe some of thes programs are trophy chasing. You know for a fact your program will compete every year so why not go to AA. Going by size isn't BSM small enough to go A.

After winning a couple of Class A titles in both boys and girls, BSM opted up to 2A for hockey only. They are easily an 1A school by enrollment so kudos to them. In other sports they play in whatever class the MSHSL assigns them to.ssppuck wrote:Nobody is ripping on the kids or parents here. It is the program, AD, coaches. Obviously other schools have different philosophies and choose to compete for titles in ALL sports in whatever class they are assigned.
Kudos to them!

What do you mean by (You know for a fact that your program will compete every year?) The 2 teams mentioned were St Thomas and Warroad and my kids played for neither. And you say your comments aren't meant twards the kids or parents. Well thats total BS and you know it. Thats who is on here and is JUST meant to belittle other players. I'm pretty sure AD's and HS coaches have a little more to do that read blogs.ssppuck wrote:Nobody is ripping on the kids or parents here. It is the program, AD, coaches. I'm not ripping the kids at all, nor did I say anything about them. It's the programs and mostly their fans that I have a problem with. The fans of these schools (especially STA) continue to beat their chest and tell everybody that they should be considered a top team regardless of class, yet they continue to avoid opting up! It doesn't make any sense to me, and if you are all for giving a fair chance to players regardless of where they live, you should be in support of the perennial A powers that are supposedly a top team out of everybody in the state opting up so that the smaller schools have a chance to get to the X. Again, not ripping the players, just the schools' decisions.Northhcky wrote:Nobody may agree with me but IMO i think comments like this say more about the ppl that post them and causes them to lose more respect than any so called "scrapper" team! EP two out of three.
You say my statement that you put in bold shows why i don't have a clue. Did you read my last sentence when i said "I believe all privates should play AA"? I don't feel there is any comparison here with the public/private teams. They are select teams without a doubt. Call me a purist or w/e but i think the tourney should be for the kids that grew up playing together with their buddies since youth and have dreamed of maybe getting to the big show. Not for select teams like summer hockey. And i am in total agreement with you about STA.ACTUALFORMERPLAYER wrote:The bold line in your first comment shows why you don't have a clue.Northhcky wrote:What do you mean by (You know for a fact that your program will compete every year?) If you ckeck birth certificates you wil not find any that say St.Thomas Academy. As for the Warroad reference I just couldn't help myself.
