Funny, Roseau doesn't seem to have many problems playing AA.

The youth hockey #'s have never mattered up there with regards to HS hockey success.
Yes, Yes we have heard it all, props to them for jumping and having success, but not all schools are going to follow suit. Warroad's enrollment is 386 and Roseau is 410, but if you want to get into the whole A vs AA thing we can throw numerous teams out there that should be ridiculed before Warroad. St Thomas (1086), Mahtomedi (1109), Totino-Grace (1009), and South St. Paul (905) to name a few are all over double the size of these schools yet continually see success in single A yet no criticism. I actually don't mind seeing Roseau win at the AA level and I would love to see the day where the northern rivalry took home both crowns in a single season. As far as the youth hockey goes, if you are referring to Warroad's "recruiting", you might as well stop right there because I am sure I am not the only one that doesn't want to see this thread closed. Back on topic, it should be a well fought game between two tough squads, I like the perspective about the top lines cancelling each other out, but I am going to go with my instinct and say Warroad will steal one on the road, 4-3 in a barn burning overtime session.
I think you're too focused on enrollment numbers. St. Thomas has developed into a good program but not until the past 8-10 years. Mahtomedi and Totino? Please. When have they had the continued success of a Warroad?

All I'm saying, is if I played for Warroad, and Roseau(our arch-rivals for many moons) was playing AA and we weren't, there would be no way I could sit there and look at myself in the mirror with a straight face. Period.

Furthermore, one would say Warroad is a favorite in this game even with it being at Roseau. So, if they are favored over a top 10 AA team in their own building what does that tell you?

LOL yeah must be hard for the boys.

Roso has a good top line also but have nothing close to nelson. he should torch rosos poor d for 2-3 goals. if he doesn't warroad could be hurting

Not sure about that. Apparently East Grand Forks did!

Roseau's Adam Knochenmus is injured. That means they don't have their best complete top line out there. Although, Roseau is at home, and Roseau has more depth.

I would say they have some respect around the state, which is deserved. Yet I wouldn't say Warroad is the favorite, as arguments can be said for either team, however I would say that although it might be fun for Warroad to play up in AA with their neighbors to the West, it isn't going to happen anytime soon. So unless you want to set up a meeting with the Warroad School Board or Athletic Department, I would say its a safe bet seeing Warroad in the A Tourney almost every year. As far as looking yourself in the mirror, lets just say its a good thing you don't have to deal with it, and if it really does bother you that bad then petition to become Warroad's A.D. and do something about it yourself.

From anyone at the game last night...

In not having Knochenmus last night, did you see this affect the play of the Rams first line, and also affect the play and continuity of the adjusted 2nd and 3rd lines...?

Thoughts...?

There was one incident where a ram was either pushed into or ran into the warroad goalie and the refs were confused as to who to give penalties to and such. I was pretty confused when that happened.

On a side note, the Warriors defense suffered a loss during the game. Senior Aaron Story, who had been moved to defense this year and was just starting to play the position well, ruptured his spleen and is in rough shape. Hoping for the best...he's a good kid.

I'm wondering why everyone has a woody for Brock Nelson? He's a good player, but not even close to Oshie in my opinion. Apparently he's ranked high for the draft, but I don't see that kid making it to the NHL. I hope he proves me wrong because he's a good kid, but he doesn't impress me as much as he impresses everyone else i guess.

If Knock was playing last night it would've been a different outcome for sure. That 1st line for Warroad is great, but Roseau's first line when healthy is just as talented. I"m looking forward to the game at the Gardens when hopefully both teams are healthy. I give the Warriors props for sure, played really well last night. They deserved to win that one, it was a physical battle. And, I really hope the Story kid is going to be OK.

But, Roseau is the top dog up north. 7-0 in state titles. Good for Warroad for winning those A titles, but those don't count in my book, you just can't compare the two. Warroad has a great tradition, but will always be the backup singers to Roseau until they can win the big one. The way it looks that might never happen for them, and that's too bad. I thank god every day I was born in Roseau, and not 20 miles to the east. haha. playful jab. zoink.

I see what you mean about Brock Nelson. He's a great player, one of the best and most talented in the state. I also happen to think he's just about as talented as Oshie, probably not quite there but close. The one thing I haven't seen from him that Oshie had is pure hunger to win, get to the free pucks, hit people, and all that other stuff. That's is his one weakness. But when it comes to pure skill, he's up there.

My only comment about Warroad playing A instead of AA is how the Section 8 AA tourney would look like every year. The first place to draw attention would be which side of the bracket would the three CURRENTLY main teams would get two of them. It would be a slugfest for the second and third ranked teams to get the opportunity to play to go to state against the team people would suggest had the easier route. It would add a lot of pressure on the regular season which would be a win/win for everyone involved.

yeah, but they don't have the testicular fortitude to do it. I've been ranting about this for 2 years and all I get is crying about the enrollment #'s and how it's fair they play Class A hockey because they aren't running teams at the youth level.

Watched Brock Nelson in elites and he was a man amongst boys, and he is ranked high in the draft and after that beat down last night his stock just went up score should have read 5-1 but home ice advantage you get to kick goals in like roseau first goal.

who is this {knock} kid is he getting lot of attention from scouts where is he playing next year.I do not believe 1 player is going to have that much of a difference, because roseau was out played by every line, and it was not the first line that got all the goals for warroad no:1 line 2 goals,NO: 2 line 1 goal, NO:3 2 goals.

I come up north here and I see so much hockey tradition in the area arenas, and that is why this area produces alot of good hockey players regardless of what class they play, I could go on and make accusations that the only reason that roseau opted up is they couldn't beat that class a team 20 miles to the east, kind of like the girls did this year, but I won't because having these two clubs ,boys and girls representing there sections down at state brings nothing but class down here. Good Luck on your rest of the season.

get over yourself buddy, warroad isnt moving up anytime soon so just give it a rest. im glad you get happy in the pants everytime roseau wins a game and it brings back memories of you cheering on hard from the band section back in high school, but it is a dead beaten horse, give it up. just be happy warroad and roseau represent the north well almost every year in both classes down at the x.

I have no ties to either Warroad or Roseau and you know nothing of my credentials. I don't need to beat the horse, that was already done in '07 when the Rams hoisted the AA trophy - something the spineless Warriors will never see.

Take #3, or #9 out of Warroad's lineup - and see how that affects the rest of the team, game plan, etc. Knochenmus DID have an impact by not being on the ice.

Home ice advantage - you mean like the delay tactics that Hasbargen uses after nearly every whistle? Yeah, the reffing was so one sided favoring Roseau, please.........they were equally bad for both teams.

I could go on and make accusations of recruiting, for boys AND now girls hockey etc - but I won't. Oops, guess I just did.

Probably one of the most physical games I've seen between these two teams, and should be a great one in Warroad. I'd bet the outcome will be different this time around - but that's why they play the game. It was another fun Roseau/Warroad game to watch, next time should be the same.
