Re: Rau Kid.
[quote="Lakeviewing"]The Kyle Rau kid is a true finisher at EP. If the Don at the U of M doesn't recruit this kid, it is sad for the Minnesota program to let this kid get playing a tough schedule in the LAKE scoring goals and assists to let him get away to a Wis. CC, St. Cloud, Bemidji or Duluth programs is really bad. The Don, didn't recruit the older brother being Chad Rau, that lit up scoring his senior year at CC. This kid needs to be in maroon and gold. This kid is a pure goal scorer. He is better than Bjustad, Benick and so on to make others on his line better.
Not sure Benik should be named with these players

Hard to compare since they played two different positions. If memory serves me correctly, one of the t.v. types said Leddy led his team in points during the tournament. I believe he scored goals in all three games and likely had some helpers.keepyourheadup wrote:In my opinion Rau's play at state last year was on par with Leddy's. $ state championships in a row...don't bet against a 5th.
Rau played great for a sophomore. He had a key goal in the Blaine game and showed the audience that he was going to be a star player. Frankly, I thought Rogge was mentioned more on T.V. and was a more consistent offensive threat in the tournament.

This stat goes against most people's reports who watched. I guess I'm confused. Karl and crew said EP outplayed Jefferson and def. looked like the better team. My sources said Jefferson outplayed EP for alot of the game with the exception of the first period and that goaltending was the difference. I didn't watch, so I don't know. I'm just trying to get the story straight here.AverageHockeyJoe wrote:MN Hockey Hub had SOG as 37 for Jags and 31 for Eagles.

thoughts
I thought both teams played great. EP all three periods and Jefferson as time went on in the game. I thought Kyle played very well, i liked how he could get knocked over and stay on the ground for awhile and then take a face off. That just shows his passion for the game and how much he wanted to win, in my opinion. Jefferson shot themselves in the foot a few too many times and how come eps net always came off? Just wondering.
The first period EP came out hard and scored the two goals right away and then after that the period was pretty even with an advantage going to EP in terms of controlling the play,schwang17 wrote:This stat goes against most people's reports who watched. The second period was much more even with a slight edge to EP, although i have heard a couple people who think Jefferson out played EP in the period, i disagree
The third period was controlled by Jefferson and they got a lot of chances although none of them seemed to be quality chances and scoring only one goal showed that.

2nd period was controlled by Jefferson, especially as of late. EP looked really dangerous when they would come hard up the ice, but I thought Jefferson controlled a lot of the play and had a ton of quality chances. Overall I think the game showed that these two teams are really dangerous and that Jefferson needs to fix up its goaltending/defense issues? Idk. I was more impressed with both teams in this game than in any of their others. Two serious section contenders no doubt in my mind.The51 wrote:The first period EP came out hard and scored the two goals right away and then after that the period was pretty even with an advantage going to EP in terms of controlling the play,schwang17 wrote:This stat goes against most people's reports who watched. Jefferson had its best sustained attacks of the game in the second, IMO. The middle of that period was the only time when it really looked like they might come back to tie or win the game. They definitely didn't control the whole period, but the parts that they did control reflected their best play of the night.toptitty96 wrote:2nd period was controlled by Jefferson, especially as of late. Though Jefferson controlled play reasonably well in the 3rd, it never once felt like EP's lead was in jeopardy. For all intents and purposes, the game was over after the 5th goal.
I'd agree with this. 1st went to EP, Jefferson controlled the second for about 2/3 of the period but EP peppered them with 3 goals in the other third, 3rd period was relatively even, EP went into a defensive shell and gave up one goal on the pk with about a minute left but it was over after the second with a 3 goal lead.karl(east) wrote:Jefferson had its best sustained attacks of the game in the second, IMO. Yep. A goal with .9 seconds left in the 2nd period. When they finally had some momentum, too. A more even start could've made for a close, entertaining game that came down to the final minutes.karl(east) wrote:Jefferson had its best sustained attacks of the game in the second, IMO. I was at the game last night as well and am surprised nobody has brought up the battle between Herbert and Rau. I must have missed what started the whole thing or don't know the history between them but it was interesting to watch.
After Rau scored he skated by the Jefferson bench and subtly taunted them. Herbert was cut off by the referee after he scored. Herbert pushed Rau's face to draw the penalty at the end of the 2nd that EP scored on to put the game away. They were also jawing and chipping away at each other for most of the game.
Any insight about what I missed?

Faust hit Rau pretty good in the first minute or so, and the hit ended up being the penalty that killed Jefferson. After that, Rau seemed to run his mouth the whole game, and he took a lot of hits because of it. The taunting wasn't necessary and I think Kyle needs to keep his ego in check. A big ego won't do you any good when it comes to winning championships and playing well at the next level. And I know he won a championship last year, but I'm just saying.eazy98 wrote:I was at the game last night as well and am surprised nobody has brought up the battle between Herbert and Rau. Somebody needed to light a fire under Jefferson, I certainly wouldn't want to be Chaska or Kennedy the next 2 games.toptitty96 wrote:Faust hit Rau pretty good in the first minute or so, and the hit ended up being the penalty that killed Jefferson. I think your boy Faust would be wise to heed your advice as well. I still can't figure out why he chased Rau around all night rather than trying to get his team back in the game.toptitty96 wrote:Faust hit Rau pretty good in the first minute or so, and the hit ended up being the penalty that killed Jefferson.
