SEC 2009-2010

Post by brookyone »

Let's get the party started. Lots of excellent competition ahead I'd bet. The Ponies should be in the hunt. I'll let fans of other SEC teams speak to the merits of their teams. Are we looking at a 3 or 4 team (or more) race this season? Looking forward to the games.

WBL will have a great chance to go far. Of course I'm picking them to go to STATE (seriously). If you haven't noticed I'm kind of a homer. Coach needs to do set the tone early.

#1. Must not allow/tolerate the team to get into the penalty funk! Especially stupid penalties. Averaged 8 a game last year early.

#2. Must have players know their roles and play TEAM hockey.

#3. Improve scoring. 100+ goals.

I have total confidence in him.

I think Roseville will be extremely tough again but Stillwater should give them a good fight again. Hill-Murray and White Bear are right in there as well. Alot of factors will come into play during the long season.

I'm going to toss in Roseau. I believe that they have a dozen or so seniors and juniors returning and they play the likes of Warroad, Crookston, Duluth, Hill-Murray, Edina, and Minnetonka. Of coarse, all will probably mean nothing if they lose to Warroad.

I'm sure that they'll be a good team, but don't figure they'll be much of a factor in the Suburban East. :?

I hear the Roseville @ Stillwater game tomorrow night is being televised by FSN. Hope the Ponies can regroup and play to their capabilities so fans can watch what have typically, over several previous seasons been very entertaining games to watch...one of the best rivalries in girls high school hockey. Roseville has looked very impressive thus far. Just a heads up for those who may not have already known about the scheduled broadcast.

Not ragging on ANY team, or kids...But Roseville's going to throttle Stillwater. Other than maybe 5 minutes on Tuesday, Hastings dominated the Ponies. The better game may be next Monday with Hastings at Roseville.

Hastings dominated them by getting outshot. I saw the game and it was far from being dominated by hastings. Hastings played very well and deserved to win, but they did not dominate. Stillwater is not hitting on all cylinders yet as seems to be their history early in the season. I am not sure if Stillwater will ever get on track but I would not count them out this early.

I hope you're not betting any money on Stillwater not playing as a team. They'll be a well-oiled machine by Christmas and the road to state goes through St. Croix Valley Recreation Center.
Sorry but I couldn't resist quoting myself (from another thread).
That being said, Roseville's display vs. Edina was enough to make a person wonder if tonight........

Too bad this ones on TV for a large audience to witness stillwater take one on the chin. Roseville is going to give stillwater a lesson on team play. Roseville by a minimum of 4 in stillwater's house.

You all are nuts! Regardless of how Stillwater has played thus far, this is a rivalry game...it will be an epic battle like all others in the past. They may have shot themselves in the foot with Hastings, but I know they will come ready for Roseville tonight!

I think Roseville fans are the only ones with the proper respect for their nemesis. During the cold war Russia was referred to as the sleeping bear. What we've got here is a big nasty sleeping pony. The same team that lost to Hastings hung a snowman on Cretin 3 days earlier.

I’ve’ only seen Stillwater play one game this year…so my perspective could be little off. It was the Hill Murray game and the impression I came away was the Ponies didn’t seem to have the team chemistry that we were accustom to seeing. I understand it was early and the coaches were probably still assessing this year’s team. However, as a fan of a rival SEC team I liked what I was seeing. My first thought was why did they break up the Cartony, Salmen, Eder –Zdechlik line. When together they have always been a force to contend with. Well, last night they got the band back together…All I can say is Oh Oh.

Great game as usual between roseville and stillwater. Two very good skating teams with dangerous forwards. If you know anything about these two teams and their rivalry you wouldn't say either is ever going to win going away.

I'd heard Stillwater wasn't the same as in years past. Well last night I'd say they're pretty darn close. Great coaching and players realizing their potential. Great coaches make adjustments.

Roseville looks very fast and they shoot, shoot, shoot. Probably the best PP I've seen. They throw the cross ice pass better than anyone. Teams must not play the box against them. I'd play a diamond.

My take on the game. Stillwater came out of the gate flying. Did what they needed to do and then hung on. Roseville was little faster and a LITTLE stronger.

Great game!

My Bears will have to stay out of the box against both!! I'm not sure if that's possible yet. They have one more week to get it corrected. No problem.

When I originally read these posts I considered not wasting my time watching the game since the outcome was already known.

Glad I changed my mind and watched the game. It was a pretty typical entertaining game between these two rivals.

Hastings @ Roseville should be a good game. I was very impressed with the Raiders...as always. Easy to see why they win so much...heckuva team with loads of talent that play the game very well in all three zones.

Pretty safe statements since both Hastings and Roseville are the "Raiders."

WBL 9 Mounds View 1

Wow, what happen? Didn’t MV beat Roseville?
And this with no scoring in the 3rd period.
WB must have shown the mercy that MV failed to do against Century. 8)

Looks like the SEC is going down to the wire once again. No one can afford to lose again if they hope to be champs!

Hopefully WBL realized what can happen when you stay out of the box and no stupid penalies. If they did watch out. Probably have to give at least 3 games. :D

What happened to Hastings?

Beat Stillwater 2-0 early on and now lose 10-0? Beat Forest Lake 4-0, now lose 4-0? Beat MV 2-0, lose 5-4?

I thought they were a contender this year for the SEC, or at least make a run at state.

I have heard that Hastings #1 goalie is out with a concussion...might have something to do with the lopsided scores as of late.

Looks like she might have been injured in the MV game
