How many Breakaways is a lot at BB1.

Looking for your thoughts on how many breakaways "very fast" players at BB1 might realistically expect to have in a season or some totals from any parents who have fast skaters to see if a particular player is off the charts or not with the numbers he's posting. If the parents of # 20 for Brainerd or #10 (I think) from M'tonka or others with fast kids are out there, I'm looking to satisfy a curiosity. Also if anyone has a super fast BB1 player they want to acknowledge respond with jersey numbers and teams so we can watch for them at tourneys, Districts & Regions upcoming.

Funny off topic story.. I had a winger in college that had over 25 breakaways in a season and scored on one.... I would have been all world in assists////Speed kills unless you have hands of a brick layer ( no offense to the masonry tradesman out there)

Thanks for sharing that Dog. It's 16 and counting after 33 games/scrims and the goals count is 3. Penalties on a couple, one post after a glove deflection, and one layed on the goal line, but it's still just 3 goals. It's not 1/25 so maybe not a "brick layer" but a tradesman of some kind it appears. Over 1/2 are against teams like Crimson 4, Tonka 2, Edina White 1, Jefferson 1, & Wayzata Blue 1, so it's not all happening against the district cellar... Still looking for more comments, and stats, along with player numbers & from what teams so we can watch for them down the road. Fun year so far. Sometimes we wish it was A Bantams but when the A team is tops in the state the roster spots were hard to come by...

It sounds like this kid needs to work on a signature move. Have him check out you tube for some ideas....

You're right blood. Making a reliable move work builds trust in it, then that leads to confidence, which makes it work even better, leading to more trust, more confidence and so on and so on.... Unfortunately, taking that first chance with a deek instead of the simple wrister will only happen when he's ready. As he gets more and more hungry from the misses, the willingness to take some risks will take care of itself...

Watching #20 for Brainerd BB1, has been an interesting progression from normal to what seems to be a pretty fast skater. I am the dad and admittedly biased but he has gained a lot of speed over the past year and along with that comes confidence. Our son grew at least a foot from his first year of bantams to this year and along with that two skate sizes--it is amazing to me that he can even stand up! He has not had that many breakaways since he plays D about 50% of the time. His gets his thrills from stopping breakaways--he never backs down from the opportunity to run an opponent down and he can almost always catch them. It has been a fabulous year thus far. We have not played many metro teams this year--curious to know what team/town is asking this question?[/quote][/quote]

Hey 20,
It's a small world. We played against you in the final of the Alex tourney. My son was #8 and he didn't have alot of opp's to open it up against your team but I noticed your son's speed right away as I am pretty dialed in to the skating component as this topic would indicate. The stride is what makes such a difference in the speed and your's has it. I had very little to do with my son procuring it even thogh I've coached him out of season for many years. His Bantam coach now says it's a gift and asks him to not ever waste it on any shift. He plays at a high tempo each and every shift and can do it because the stride conserves his energy, and because he's getting a real burn to play now as well. He didn't always have that but it comes at a good time I guess. Hope to hear from you again about your son's progress. It's great to be back on the site ( Iused to be a regular for a while) meeting new people who are taking the youth hockey journey like we are...

Not to brag or anything but I do get quite a lot of breakaways. I am Tyler Johnson (#17 on Jefferson). I do get them many times and average at least one a game (many on draws or penalty kills by attacking the defense). My problem is finishing the breakaway. I only score on about 25% of them. If anyone has any tips on finishing PLEASE let me know.

okay; the challenge is on! I have permission to track breakaways and rundowns by brainerd20 during his games this weekend in Fargo and Moorhead. We have two games on Sat. (if the blizzard doesn't stop us) should be a fun day! :D

BREAKAWAY TIP you will need to know if ever casted in a movie:

"The triple deke babymaker"

1-always make sure your half shield plastic facemask is up when on the bench to promote maximum screen time
2-gain possesion of the puck and proceed NORTH
3-look the goalie in the eye, then at your coach, then the DIMEPIECE on the other side of the glass
4-ignore the mom yelling "pass the puck to the redhead, Jancze"
5-deke once to backhand
6-deke once to forehand
7-lift leg while deking again to backhand
8-with goalie laying on his side on the ice because his jock is around his skates and frankly he is mezmorized by your skill set, STOP
9-again, ignore the mom yelling "pass the puck to the redhead", you both know if you do you will never see the puck back (hence your 73 assist year vs his 73 goal year vs your 20 goal year and his 3 assist year)
10-bury the puck
11-SELLY and fist pump like you just won the cup
12-proceed to center ice for the faceoff, it's only the 1st period

take possesion of the puck and proceed

If anyone knows speed with the rockets attached to Jordan's skates it's you... Love your breakaway spoof. We have a couple of redheads on our team this year. Mine has 36% goals 64% assists so he's not one of them...

I'm sure he can remember most of his breakaways this season if he thinks back on it, in addition to you tracking them the rest of the way. You should probably double it with his 50% D time to get a hypothetical total.

We're up to 19 breakaways now for the year and stuck on 3 goals. One was a deek and went forehand (good save) one to the backhand (an inch wide of net) so not just wristers anymore is a start. Getting closer to journeyman mason though...
