I am a BSM Freshman Dad. See if you can figure out which one from my name. I think I should speak up at this point.
Thanks to all of you who have said nice things about TJ (and his freshman friends).
As someone said, our kid is a pretty good freshman hockey player. He is working hard in his role this year to help his team win games. His coach is happy with his play. No other opinion (including mine) matters very much.
For what its worth, moving TJ from bantams to varsity was a very hard decision (his Edina coaches are outstanding and friends of mine). It has turned out to be the right decision so far, both for hockey and, more importantly, for school reasons. Our Edina friends have been very gracious.
My wife, daughter, two nieces and two nephews all attend(ed) BSM. TJ has been in catholic school since kindergarten. It was hard to leave Edina, but BSM is the best school fit for him. We consider both hockey programs excellent. TJ was not recruited to BSM (Edina worked harder).
If you see TJ play hockey and want to comment on that, good or bad, you are free to do so. The rest of the stuff is probably out of bounds. Also, it is best to be specific instead of saying things like "bad players".

im not so sure they are ridiculing the players as much as the coach for taking freshman when there were probably better juniors and seniorseastsideguy wrote:kudos to Terry Moore, it's unfortunate people feel the need to hide behind their screen name and ridicule 15 year old kids. What is really scary is that i think some of the worst and most critical offenders are actually adults.

I think you have your Benilde freshman mixed up. Besse is real. Tied for the scoring lead with Patterson (sr) and Horn (soph) with 26 points. The other 3 are non-factors and made a mistake moving to high school this year and would have been much smarter to play 50-60 high end bantam A games, and be leaders, with Edina and EP. The Benilde coach made a mistake naming them to the team. I can't even figure out why the families, or coach, would even do that. Benilde=not that impressive.
Besse fits the rule, top two lines, power play and shorthanded, go for it. Otherwise, play bantam A.
you are one of the guilty parties

2. i was trying to point out the coach shouldn't have taken him and that is one piece of evidence why
Thanks for the insight into this type of decision-making. I have played high school hockey and coached bantams, but I much prefer high school hockey since it represents a school and a community, and probably 99% of the players do not go beyond high school/bantam hockey. This is why I like to keep track of freshmen playing varsity. It doesn't matter to me if they are NHL caliber, being recruited by D1 schools, or simply representing their community high school. It is a special talent that can make varsity as a freshman in ANY sport.tmoore17 wrote:I am a BSM Freshman Dad. See if you can figure out which one from my name. You will notice that some posters seem only interested in talking about the potential D1 recruits. I am not. Nor do I consider any players 'bad'. My sons could not play ice hockey, because they grew up in Malaysia! But, if we had lived back in Minnesota, we would gone the ice hockey bantam/high school route. Even with the cost of sticks these days. Ouch!

For the record - my nephew is a F at BSM playing bantam A for a western suburb. He realizes he make not make BSM varsity until he's a Jr. (he's probably a better fb player), but his family all agreed that BSM was the best place for him academically given their school district. If this district didn't take the turn it did the past 5-7 years he probably would never have left his school.
It seems some people want to bash some of these kids simply because they've chosen the private school route. My suggestion is to get over it. I don't like the fact that recruitng goes on (surely it does, let's not claim otherwise) but that should have nothing to do with evaluating kids that are 14, 15, 16 years old. You may not like the program, you may not like the way it works, but that should have nothing to do with taking potshots at kids and at parents who in many cases may be very good people.

Jim Roo that's good you can boast about your own son , just curious how he did against Eden Prairie, Lakeville S. and N., Burnsville, Jefferson etc.?[/quote]
Even if "Leave It To Beaver" is the father of TJ Roo, (which I honestly have no idea), merely reporting a statistic can hardly be called bragging.

That's not the direction my comment was to be taken. Inquiring how he does against top rated teams like others. Coatta, Fasching, Besse and so on. Fasching racking up good numbers and he is a '95 playing better teams, Roo a '94 not sure if there team has played teams like Apple Valley has. I haven't checked there website to find out. Why not brag about your sonhockeyfan893 wrote:Even if "Leave It To Beaver" is the father of TJ Roo, (which I honestly have no idea), merely reporting a statistic can hardly be called bragging.FrooTyeagledad2b wrote:Jim Roo that's good you can boast about your own son , just curious how he did against Eden Prairie, Lakeville S. and N., Burnsville, Jefferson etc.?Leave It To Beaver wrote:TJ Roo 1g 3a against Simley. 14-12-13 25pts

Congrats once again to Levi Talarico for player of the game
Another congratulations goes to Levi Talarico who is SMDC Orthopaedic’s Player of the Game at the Duluth Heritage Sports Center last night against Superior, WI! Levi is now at 30 points and is really making a name for himself as one of the Minnesota’s Top Freshman. If you ever get a chance to watch Levi, it will be worth your time
