Syracuse
Kallie Billadeau......G.......Hopkins HS.......Minnetonka, MN

Great pick up for the Orange and a chance for Kallie to continue skating with Cara Johnson at the D1 level. Kallie has established herself as one of the top goalies to come out of MN HS Hockey.

Congratulations Cara and Kallie

Wow - nice pickup by Syracuse to get both of these Hopkins players. Both really nice girls, from great families, and very good hockey players. Every team needs not only skilled players, but even more importantly "good people." Kallie and Cara are both.

It's really too bad a WCHA team didn't land these girls - would have been nice to see them play more often. I predict that both of them will have great college careers.

Here is an overview of MN Girls who have committed to schools - many girls grow up thinking about playing in the WCHA the reality is there are more options out east - I listed the total schools and where MN girls are going.......(From Hux on the College Forum - MN leads states and provinces with 21 signed) - still some top MN not publically committed - not sure the class will make 40 as some projected - but great showing!

How about "additional" options out east? The reality is that there are additional options out east...in the form of additional / more division I roster spots for the student athlete than can be found in the WCHA. The implication that "out east" offers "more options" is not every student athlete's reality IMO. Yeah...I'm nitpicking. The ECAC, CHA & HE provide great opportunities for many Minnesota native players no doubt. Some great Minnesota players probably just want to play in the best d@%& women's college hockey conference in the country...where they can also get a top notch education as well.

Brooke - Totally agree today WCHA is a great League. My comment on out EAST is focused on there are more teams, options, scholorships/aid and maybe better schools out East (lots of apples and oranges in that statement....) if the players are willing to go away from home. The WCHA is a great league and I am sure most all of these MN players looked at the top schools of MN, WI and OSU after that depending on majors or interest girls looked East reality they didn't have the option. Between MN, WI and OSU there are only 2 MN girls - it is a great thing for MN girls that there are some great schools out East increasingly scouting MN Girls and recognizing their abilities on the ice, locker room and class room - if it continues who knows maybe the WCHA will go backwards.

From Hux on College Forum - 108 total D1 commitments to date 23 are from Minnesota . Highlighted are MN players, schools that have MN recruits - they are at 16 MN friendly schools (out of the 34 on the list) and added summer teams that I knew for girls. When you look at this list you have to take your hat off to MN HS Coaches and to Winny Brodt & Chris Peterson of the MN JR Whitecaps; & to Tom Press of the MN ICE CATS - they did a terrific job of getting their players a chance to play at the next level.

U.S. 63: Minnesota 23; Massachusetts 7; Wisconsin 5; Illinois, Michigan, and New Jersey 4 each; Colorado 3; Alaska, New York, Pennsylvania, and Vermont 2 each; Arizona, California, Maine, Missouri, North Carolina, and Virginia 1 each

CANADA 44: Ontario 27; Manitoba, and Quebec 5 each; Saskatchewan 3; Alberta 2; British Columbia, and Newfoundland 1 each

Stina's a great kid. I believe that everyone, not just the EP nation, that knows her is proud and excited for her. It sounds like Syracuse will represent Minnesota more than some of the local schools.

The junior goalie for Warroad, Shelby Amsley-Benzie, verbally committed to the University of North Dakota for the 2011-2012 campaign last year as well to add to the list, I am sure there will be a few other Warroad girls making commitments in the next season or so as well!

I liked the part of the article where the coach says she "works as hard as anyone I've seen in 27 years coaching boys' and girls' hockey."

The Pioneer Press has the box scores from the game last night with Laurel scoring the game winner in overtime shorthanded.
