Gotcha. You kept calling him a Canadian kid so I thought he came down for the tournament.
I heard a AAA story about a team from Florida that had a great, close game with a real strong team from Long Island. The next time they played, two kids came down from Ontario to join them! Blowout!

Too bad for the young 97 Fire as I hear they had a much harder road. They had to fight by a scrappy Lakeville South team to win 5-2, Battle past Wayzata and their "six foot goaltender" to a 7-1 victory, and play a very talented, hard-hitting Woodbury team to a 6-2 victory all before playing the Hornets to a 4-3 shoot out loss. Granted the Edina 11-TRF 0, Edina 7 -Fargo O, Edina 10 EGF-1 must have been very trying on their arms from all the arm pumping but otherwise they probably didn't even break a sweat . OMG played them to a close 3-2 game but that was it. Of course they won, did you expect anything different?
My Kudos to the Fire, I wasn't there but were told they played like a team, passed the puck and had very solid goaltending and they are all 97's. I know all of us in association hockey want to hate the Fire but my kid is friends with one of them on the team. They are a bunch of nice kids from small assiciations who just want a chance to play good hockey.
They got their chance this weekend and did very well. Hats off to them.
Sounds like sour grapes to me with your whining. Lick your wounds and move on, your kid(s) lost in a great game. You should be very happy about that instead of ranting on about the pools.

by the way, that same EGF team that lost to Edina 10 - 1 also beat that hard hitting Woodbury team. What's your point?
Arnie it is good thing that Roseau did you and the boys from Edina and the Fire a big favor. They did not invite Compuware 97 team that would have been ugly for the locals...

Fire and Compuware played in Final 4 at Bauer Tournament in Chicago. It was a 3-1 game favoring Compuware. They are big and aggressive. Nice team to watch
dogeatdog1 wrote:Carefull what you are spoutin. the Bantam minor teams would have very few 97s on them.
Usually none. But Pee Wee teams outside of Minnesota and the Dakota's have no 96 kids. The PeeWee A teams we've played this season have been mostly 96 kids. The Edina team has 9 kids born in 96, 7 born in 97 and 1 born in 98. And the 97 kids they do have would compete well at the Bantam Minor age group. Not making excuses (none needed - great game), just stating facts. This is the type of competition we are seeking out, so we are not complaining. We are happy to play teams that are competitive with us even if they are bigger, stronger and older.
Anyways, don't want to throw off this thread ... once again thanks to Roseau for a nice Tournament which did feature some pretty good hockey.
InTheKnow wrote:Puck, just to correct your facts. Edina has 6 - 96's, 10 - 97's and 1 - 98.
Thanks for the correction. Which would make them a Bantam Minor team outside of the State.
Not to be nit picky but if they had one 96 wouldn't they be a bantam minor team? I will go away now cause the team is decent and should be playing peewee A teams.
96s, 97s, 98s, all on one team. This is the goofiest age system I have ever heard of. Maybe this is why Minnesota Hockey does not like AAA USA hockey that has the single birth year teams. How do you match teams up for competition?
Outside of the team manager and possibly a parent or two that help find summer opportunities for the kids, how would anyone know that?
Most teams we have been on (both association and summer) list the boys birthdates on the team roster that is handed out to all the parents at the start of the season. That way we can wish them a Happy Birthday on the appropriate day! Technically we don't need to know the birth year to do that, but it is usually included anyway.
