CEC knocked off Duluth tonight 2-0... pretty much giving me the impression that the Northern Stars will be the 5th seed and head out on the road for the (first round anyway) playoffs....
Thinking it will probably be
1. PHM
2. GRG
3. CEC
4. Elk River (Mostly because of Duluth beating them I put them 4th?)
5. Duluth
and the rest...
Just an idea though...

Looking at the 'ELKoholics' schedule it is kind of tough to rank them much higher than where you have them. My guess is they will push hard for a 2 or 3 spot based on record. Losing to Duluth sort of puts them where you have them DHMN. Loss to the 'hounds' is the 'nail in the coffin' despite record

Elk River is 17-2-3 and ranked 6th in the state. They play in one of the toughest conferences in the state with only one loss . Wins over White Bear lake, Grand Rapids, Centennial (2).
The loss to Duluth 1-0 was not a indicator of the game. Elk River had the puck in their zone 85 % of the game. Hats off to their goalie.
Your leaders PHM played teams like Cambridge, Hibbing (2), Superior (2), Jefferson, St Francis, Silver Bay, Mayo, Owatonna, International Falls. Give me break.
PHM Strength of schedule was very weak. Elk River schedule was a very tough one.
4th seed. You guys are crazy.

Re: my opinion
My guess...
1-Proctor/Hermantown/Marshall
2-Elk River
3-Grand Rapids
4-Cloquet
5-Duluth
I think this section is a tight one. Playoffs should be very interesting.

ER is 1-1-1 in section with win over GRG and a very good overall record and SOS.
GRG is 3-1-1 in section with win over PHM and the strongest overall SOS of the teams in the section.
PHM is 5-2 or 6-2 pending in the section with 2 wins over Duluth,1 vs CEC as the best section wins. Overall their SOS is weaker but have a nice win over Breck.

CEC is 3-2-3 in section
Duluth is 2-3-1 in section
Will be very interesting playoff and any of these teams could win it as they are close to even all around.

There are not too many teams that you can count out in these sectional playoffs. I can't believe that anyone is looking forward to any particular opponent. It is going to be tough to come out of this section. Good Luck Girls!
Elkpower, you may end up being right on. Elk River may win this section. Time will tell. However, your strength of schedule arguement seems a bit misguided. PHM and Elk River played 3 common teams, Duluth, Cloquet, and Grand Rapids. PHM was 3-2. Elk River was 1-1-1. Looking at the remaining schedules, Elk River has played 3 games against teams in the LPH top 20. They are WBL at #11, and Centennial twice at #17. That's it. PHM has played Minnetonka #2, Irondale #4, Burnsville #15, and they have also played the Warroad, Breck, and Crookston the 1,2 & 4 single A teams. PHM has played more games against lower end teams but as you can see have also played much better higher end teams. I would say the strength of schedules are fairly even. Funny how you dont mention the good teams they have played in your blog.
JUST MY POINT OF VIEW I HAVE SEEN MOST OF THESE TEAMS PLAY AND IT SHOULD BE A GREAT PLAYOFF TO SEE WHO COMES OUT OF THIS SECTION.
ST.FRANCIS 8 NOT VERY GOOD
CAM/ISANTI 7 SAME
FORESTLAKE 6 SOME TALENT
DULUTH 5 WIN OVER ER BUT OUT PLAYED
CEC 4 WORK VERY HARD BUT INCONSISTANT
PHM 3 NOT BAD WORK HARD HAVE SOME TALENT BUT SOFT SOS
GRG 2 OK BUT 1 LINE WILL NOT GET THE JOB DONE
ER 1 2 LINES DEEP AND A VERY UNDERATED GOALIE

I've seen every team in this section at least once. IMO, PHM is the best by a good margin. My seeding, would be
1. PHM
2. GRG
3. CEC
4. Elk River (could change with #5)
5. Duluth (could change with #4)
Everyone else. Nothing against the Elk River girls, but I think it will take more than one girl to win this section. Just my opinion

Smokin'
If I am correct they kind of rank the teams just as the boys do, is that in fact correct? If so head to head counts first, followed by common opponent, than strength of schedule. That puts the Elks at 4. Fill me in boys if it is different in girls rankings.

You forgot Elks Beat Grand Rapidsnorthwoods oldtimer wrote:If I am correct they kind of rank the teams just as the boys do, is that in fact correct? Tied Cloquet
and had a tougher schedule than Cloquet
PHM did not play anyone.
If those teams were that good they would be in the Top Ten.
Elk River is rated #5 where do you think that comes from. Hello... can you hear me now.
Re: Smokin'
Well, let's give them the #1 seed, we will put PHM at #2, Gr Rapids at #3, CEC at #4, and Duluth at #5. Your mighty Elks couldn't beat the #4 or # 5 seed. PHM did. I have seen all the teams and PHM, IMO, is much better.elkpower wrote:You forgot Elks Beat Grand Rapidsnorthwoods oldtimer wrote:If I am correct they kind of rank the teams just as the boys do, is that in fact correct? Elkpower, I think you should take some time tonight and look at the schedules of Elk River and PHM. Then look at the latest LPH rankings. You lose all credability when you comment that PHM does not play anybody. They do have some soft teams on their schedule. Superior and Silver Bay are in their conference. They have to play them. I would argue, and I think most would agree that they have played 4 teams that are better than the best team Elk River has played. Minnetonka, Irondale, Warroad, and Breck. Some would argue that the 5th best team, Burnsville is as good as the best team they have played. My observations would be that Elk River has played several games against decent teams. But really, how many good teams have they played? Maybe Elk River really doesn't play anybody.

Irondale Won 5-1
Stillwater tied 1-1
Breck won 2-1
They did this rolling three lines at them. We have rolled three lines all year.
Grand Rapids - We rolled three lines at them.
Grand Rapids third line hardly saw the ice. You can see their player development program starting to faulter. In a few years they may have a tough road ahead of them.
You will see "Elk Power Squared" if they decide to roll two lines in the section playoff games.
scrimmages, we talkin scrimmages....scrimmageselkpower wrote:

Elkpower, your team may very well win this section. Time will tell. Everything else is speculation. From my vantage point you argue PHM plays nobody when in fact they have played 4 teams better than the best one you have played. NOBODY would argue that. Scimmages mean nothing. The facts are that in games that count you have played teams rated 10 and 17 and nobody else. That to me does not seem like a killer schedule. The facts are the facts and that is PHM has played in more meaningful games against better teams than you have. That is why your arguement is bunk.

Wild77 , laker9 and elkpower do we all agree that these are the top 3 teams in this section? I would think so. So how did they do lets see GRG beat PHM and ER beat GRG. PHM did not play ER so i think you may be able to figure it out ER 1 GRG 2 PHM #3 i know where elkpower is from and i am guessing that wild and laker are from PHM area.

Re: ??
OK, so you are talking about Elk River's loss to Duluth was not an idicator of a game. So don't you think that the PHM loss to Grand Rapids was not an indicator game as well? PHM outshot GR 25-15 and in my opinion I think PHM outplayed GR for the most part.
