Brothers on opposing teams

Post by hockeydad »

Doesn't happen often, but Mayo and Austin had two brothers playing on opposing teams thursday (McMasters). Little brother for Mayo scored a goal in Mayo's win.

I think there were brothers playing for Eastview and Apple Valley two or three years ago.

Also, I seem to remember brothers playing for Albert Lea and Red Wing maybe in the late 90s or early 00s. One was a goalie. I think they may have faced each other in a section title game.

Any other examples? Who had bragging rights?

With the Woodbury/East Ridge split, there are 4 sets of brothers:

Walker Hyland(W)/Braedon Hyland(ER)
Andrew Herbert(W)/Patrick Herbert(ER)
Connor Halbert(W)/Easton Halbert(ER)
Ben Rollins(W)/Josh Rollins(ER)

This year all of the Woodbury boys are seniors and the ER boys are all sophomores. Woodbury took both games this year. Next year will be another story. While the brothers won't play each other next year, ER has the majority of skating talent and a surprising goaltender.

When Century started, Mayo had Brandon Wiltgen and Century has Cory Wiltgen.

I know Andrew Herbery and Walker Hyland are great players, do their brothers follow in their foot-steps?

Yes. IMO Braedon Hyland will be better than Walker Hyland and that is saying something cause the elder Hyland is quite good. I would say skill for skill Patrick Herbert is as good as Andrew Herbert but he is significantly taller. It will be interesting to see what happens with the younger brothers.

I know this thread pertains to brothers, but an interesting side note - I believe the coach of CDH has two nephews (twins) that play for Eagen. I think both teams are in the same section and would assume they are both rated fairly high.
