Crookston — Here’s how Saturday’s Crookston Sports Center grand opening is shaping up:
• 10 a.m.: Walking Club inaugural walk
• 1:15 p.m.: Dedication ceremony
• 12:30 to 7:30 p.m.: Guided tours every half-hour
• 3 p.m.: Pirate girls’ hockey versus Lake of the Woods
• 5:30 p.m.: Figure skating exhibition, and skate in the Blue and Gold Rinks
• 5 to 7:30 p.m.: Free-will meal sponsored by the Blue Line Club
• 7:30 p.m.: Pirate boys’ hockey versus East Grand Forks

The day will also feature the Crookston Area Men’s Chorus, a Dynamite hockey scrimmage, and a live KROX broadcast.

There is no admission to any of Saturday’s events, including the two Pirate hockey games. The BLC will provide free hot chocolate, cider and popcorn throughout the day.

Several hundred copies of the Crookston Daily Times/Valley Shopper special supplement, “Looking Back, Looking Ahead” will also be available.

Those who come out for any or all of the events are encouraged to wear Pirate apparel or their Crookston youth team jersey or jacket.

How big is your new arena? Big enough to host the 8A tournament? Going to apply?

The main arena holds about 1,800 to 2,200. We all know the obvious best choice is the little Ralph but if Warroad and EGF get to host than Crookston better be able to.

Random, but I had a State baseball tournament in Crookston back in high school, and I was pretty impressed by the athletic complexes this city has. Idk specifically about hockey, but there were about 15 very nice basbeall fields. Im glad the community puts this as a prioroty.
