I know exactly which ref you are talking about Melvin! He is ridiculous,Melvin44 wrote:WBL 5 Stillwater 2 (Stillwater was missing Shorty Salmen a great player)
Penalties were 11 for WBL and 3 for Stillwater and WBL still outshot them by 6.
Worst ref EVER! the one with the silly looking mustache. The other was good.
No bad penalties. Just a lot of bad calls.
Hill Murray 3 BSM 0
Physical wide open game. Both goalies played well - Hannah Brandt scored on a PP early in the second then added a second amazing goal working through traffic. Melissa Doyle scored a break away in the third. McKeever withstood a couple of wild flurries and came up big to preserve the shutout.
Second: HM-H. Brandt (M. Brandt, Doyle), 0:50, pp; HM-H. Brandt (Doyle, M. Brandt), 7:18.
Third: HM-Doyle (H. Brandt, M. Brandt), 7:09.
Saves:
HM-McKeever 7-7-3--17,
BSM-Press 13-11-12--36

Elk River 4 Maple Grove 1 Elks now 18-2-3
Jonna Curtis got the "Pure Hat Trick" for her 33rd of year. Cassie Shreckinghaust got the 4th goal for her 11thopf the year.
Goalie Sam Geisler should have gotten the shut out. Terrible goal called by ref out of position. Most under rated goalie in the state. .95 Save percentage.
Elks are on their way for the Northwest suburban Champions 1 loss in the conference.

Roseville 6 WBL 3
Roseville came out flying on ther Senior night. Capistrant had 4 goals. Very nice team.
I bet shots were close even though we had a few more penalties called. I thougth refs did a good job. At least realized there was another team on the ice.
Hopefully we'll get another crack at em.

Melv, gotta disagree with you on this one just a bit. I too thought the game was great and very fast paced and physical. But, I thought the ref'ing was terrible, especially by one of them. I was watching the coaches going nuts as they were trying to figure out what game the one was watching. 3 times last night he pulled the puck out of the White Bear net on whistles that he called from a view from the wrong side of the net. Well, wait a minute, I guess I know why you liked them now.Melvin44 wrote:Roseville 6 WBL 3

White Bear has a really nice team, but the bottom line is this. Checking is checking. You can rub out and angle off, but as soon as you put that little extra into it, it's checking. And that little extra is what your Bears do way too often.

We'll agree to disagree. The non allowed goal didn't go into the net until well after the whistle from the dot when everyone stopped playing. (yes it was blown to soon). There was one where the whistle should have blown way earlier with a 9 player scramble. It never went into the net. Your players did a nice acting job though.

As far as the refs yes I thought it seemed the ref who was right by the RV bench took a lot of advise from coach Brodt.

As far as checking I didn't see anything other than my daughters which wasn't called. I think Hannah Brodts speed surprised her. Nice player. They did make up for it on the Ticky tack penalty they did call against her in front of the net.
When two teams play that fast there are going to be penalties. Hopefully we'll meet again. I thought the game was great other than the outcome. Be carful with your posts or I'll have to root for STW Sat.

RV has been the best team we've played all year. I love the players. Great kids/fans. Cappy was amazing!
Can't we all just get along?

I thought it was a good but not a great game. Roseville’s depth was a huge factor and they are firing on all cylinders… going to be tough to beat. Definitely deserve the #1 status. WB got caught looking early and it cost them. It was nice to have a game where the officials didn’t decide the outcome… although I will agree that they were a little shaky. As far as the quick whistle…only consistent calls made all night. Got to give the Gopher recruit cudos for drawing a late penalty with the ‘grabbing the stick and flop like a fish move”…veteran play and very convincing. Seriously, she is the real deal, fun to watch. Beautiful goal she had to start the second that basically put the game away. If WB can get to the Section final (RV will) will have to get better goalie play, eliminate a few penalties and have the Hockey Gods lean their way just little. Should be fun.

Melv, I always love your posts, I just had to throw a few out there to see if I could fish you in a bit. And the threat of you cheering for SW, I know is only a threat. Because you love 'em as much as I do.Melvin44 wrote:Haybro I thought we're becoming friends?Hansonbrother wrote:Melv, gotta disagree with you on this one just a bit. I think my favorite call of the night was when Stecklein lifted the WB girls stick and stole the puck and got called for checking. Never touched your player. Oh well, what's done is done.

Looking at the stats, is it true that Irondale played their #1 power play when they were up 7 to 0 with one minute left in the game???St. Louis Park goalie played extremely well tonight and had it at a 2-0 game about half way through the second. But the constant barage of shots was the downfall. Irondale looks ready for the Benilde game Saturday for the conference crown. Good luck to both teams.
Why do coaches feel the need to pad their players stats in this way? It demoralizes the team you play, the other players on your team do not develop and it hurts the sport of girls's hockey in general.....not to mention sportsmanship. Too bad.
Well, first consider the fact the head coach was at the concession stand as he had been booted from the game. So it wasn't his call. Second, it was senior night for Irondale and they played seldom used seniors, who played jv much of the year, and threw them out on the top line. So don't let the stats mislead you. There were a lot of penalties in the game due to SLP being skated around and just grabbing on. You can throw your 3rd line out, but eventually they get tired and you'll be going with one of your top 2 lines. The 2nd and 3rd period were probably over half filled with special teams play. That's the reason. Otherwise little used seniors would have seen a ton of ice time in the 3rd...Thunderbird77 wrote:Looking at the stats, is it true that Irondale played their #1 power play when they were up 7 to 0 with one minute left in the game???St. Louis Park goalie played extremely well tonight and had it at a 2-0 game about half way through the second. No. Both teams are considered co-champs.OntheEdge wrote:Edina 5, Wayzata 1
Edina ends up tied with Minnetonka for the Classic Lake Conference crown. In head to head action Minnetonka beat Edina and tied Edina but I don't know if tie breakers apply for determing Conference titles. Does anyone know if tie breakers apply?
Tonka has had problems scoring against good teams as they usually generate a lot of shots but many are from the circle and out. They play a system that has the center skating high in the slot to allow the D to pinch but with the scoring potential they have at forward I don't think they're seeing the results they should.
