5,000 career saves? Windom goalie is close
Posted by John Millea
Here's an interesting girls' hockey note, passed along by Joel Alvstad, sports editor of the Cottonwood County Citizen in Windom:
Windom Area goalie Brooklyn Drahota is 19 saves away from surpassing 5,000 career saves. She is currently far-and-away the state leader in goalie saves this season -- granted, no goalie really WANTS to lead the state in saves. On the MGHCA statistics leaders website, Brooklyn has a 300-save lead on the goalie currently in second place, Dory Johnson of Hibbing-Chisholm.
The Windom Area team has a record of 6-15-1 and has been outshot in nearly every game this season.
Brooklyn actually has more saves this season than minutes played (1,060 saves in 1,001 minutes), which makes it a pretty safe bet that she'll surpass the 5,000 career saves mark in the next game she plays, which is scheduled for Thursday night at New Ulm.
Brooklyn is a senior at Jackson County Central High School, which is paired with Windom for girls hockey.
All I can say is WOW! That is a lot of saves, good job and congratulations!
