Anyways yes brainerd definently can contend this year it's not the same type of brainerd team that we've seen the past. O can someone figure this out for me plz why is Eagan ranked so high and brainerds not even ranked?I mean eagans schedule contains a bunch of bad AA teams and one Ep team that is overratted. I mean they lost to ep 7-1 early on the year and than later beat them in ot. At least brainerds beat two top 20 A schools they won a tournament everyone wrote them off at.. Sure they lost to a moorehead team early in the season kinda like Eagan and ep... But just like Eagan the rest of their schedule is full of mediocre or bad teams... So the only reasoning I can think of y eagans top ten and brainerds not in is....... Eagans a city team and all u city folk still think hockey doesn't exist outside of a 50 mile radius around St. Paul, quit hating on brainerd

Well the state hs league has brainerd listed as 1964 students. What is the cutoff for class A? You may want to look into it.
Eagan and EP both play tougher schedules and have similar records. How many Top 20 AA wins does Brainerd have. It looks like 0 to me.
I didn't know anyone wrote them off at the heavily touted rochester tourney? To be honest I don't think a lot of people cared. They beat a Fargo team and two avg to below avg section 1 teams...wow!
If they want to get noticed or ranked higher; whatever that really does, come down like DE and Moorhead and play some teams.
EP lost to Edina at Braemar. Tonka 1-0 at Pagel who is maybe the top team in the country and to Eagan at Eagan in OT. Otherwise they are coming off a state championship and beat everyone else in their schedule. Their next three games (Burnsville, Bloom-Jeff, and Duluth East) will be more competition than Brainerd plays all yr.

It really doesn't matter either way. All the play talk has to get done in the section tournaments and then at the big show.
All these guys that do the rankings or cry about the rankings. Come on guys, WHO CARES?
Seriously, if your team is really good, then they'll make it out of their section (no matter where they got seeded) and they'll get to the show and win it it all..........right?
Its the same old thing every year, cities teams this, cities teams that and vice versa with the north. Just play, win your section, show up at state and go from there. Maybe then the arguement can from who has the hottest cheerleaders, bigger crowds or something.

I don't see the Spring Lake Park (the cities finest) game on the schedule? Maybe the schedule is off and that's probably the only reason us CITIDIOTS won't crowd the doors trying to get a peek at this rough and tumble canadian style team.

I'm sure that's because it includes Pillager and Pierz enrollments.

Go starters wasn't saying ep was a bad team I just don't think they are in Edina tonka or hills class like everyone thinks they are. I didn't say brainerd should be ranked above ep... But honestly besides Jefferson and Ep who does eagan play? the Lakevilles? Eastview ad Apple Valley? Rosemount? Not one of those teams are good or have a legit chance at making state except the lakevilles because 1AA is the worst section in The state... Roseau and Moorehead are just as good of teams as EP and Jefferson, Brainerd has just yet to play either team yet besides moorehead early on and lost...( kinda like Eagan against EP 7-1)... I'm just trying to make a case that the only reason brainerds getting left out is because they aren't a city team... I agree they play a weak schedule except maybe Roseau Moorehead and Bemidji and than Sartell and Alex (both ranked single a teams)...

You're beating your head against the wall....

Everyone knows teh metro AA burbs, the metro private school AA and A teams are the world's greatest teams....

Up north we have Moorhead, Duluth East, Roseau and Grand Rapids (sometimes Cloquet); the rest are just wannabes.

Well, Brainerd has a decent team, physical, a good goalie and a couple of snipers.

Brainerd beating Roseau/Moorhead back to back in sections will be tough, so a 3 or 4 (or even 2) seed makes it near impossible.

I tell Bemidji people all the time, you need the 2 or 3 seed and then hope for the breaks in the final game...

Bemidji had their chance at 2 or 3 against Brainerd but could not hold the lead.

One can argue that it is more than a matter of student enrollment. There are high schools in Texas, California, and Florida that run around 3,000 students and they aren't very good at ice hockey, eh?

You have to look at the income-level of school districts and, thus, the types of facilities available to athletes. I suspect that the Eden Prairie and Eagan school districts are much wealthier than Brainerd/Pillager/Pierz and they probably have nicer training facilities. Didn't B/P/P contemplate axing the ice hockey program just a year or two ago due to financial concerns? (Doesn't the EP football team have a national ranking due, in part, to their facilities?) And I also surmise that high school players in the Cities attend those off-season training sessions at a far greater rate than do players in the B/P/P school district.

Finally, take a look at the state map. Northern schools have to travel great distances just to get any kind of game. Silver Bay? Roseau? Ely? If they have to travel to the Twin Cities constantly for matches against ranked teams, they may as well transfer there.

So, if Eden Prairie is truly better than B/P/P, it is a matter of the rich, overweight kid beating up on the skinny country bumpkin.

Thanks syd for the offer. I have a 5 of the 6 top teams in the state nearby so i can usually drive 10 minutes and see them play. Two teams I saw on Sat. were tonka and wayzata who DID come up north to moorhead and combined have outscored the spuds 14-1 this season...on the road. Tonka was missing their top guy too who avg's 3 points a game so lets just say they are lucky it wasn't running time. I extend the offer back to you but come early because these teams sell out a lot and the scouts alone take up 60-70 seats alone to watch this SQUIRT hockey as you guys called it.
Seeing that the outstate sections 1,7, and 8 have combined for 3 wins in the past two state tourneys (two of which were by the spuds last years the other coming from the world beating rams who came down 28-0 two years ago before our little private school boys hammered them to the point that don cherry released a one hr video on it. They were also outscored 11-3 by HM and BSM), I think Ill stick to metro hockey.
They have pillager and pierz as 500 more students combined. I know it may be more than pure enrollment but thats how we determine classes and someone was referring to BPP as a little guys when they have 2,500 enrolled between the three of them.
Big deal about their facilities? How big is brainerds rink? I am guessing 200x85 or something close? Same with tonkas. Do they have a weightroom? Can you run sprints and work on stickhandling up there?
I see the travel excuse for teams way up there but how far is brainerd from the western burbs? I see they bust up to EGF, crookston, CEC, Bemidji for non conference games and those are not actually next door. You must have went through the cities to get down to the section 1 x-mas tourney in rochester. Actually, it looks like Brainerd plays everywhere but the cities and my point is that if they want to get recognized, come play the big boys.

Running Time versus Moorhead is more than a little concerning, but they are playing much better now. Time will tell.

Have the warriors play a team within 50 miles of the cities and then we'll see if they can contend. There record is a direct result of not playing ONE metro team. The few losses they have are a 6-0 running timer vs. Moorhead and a decent class A team in Alexandria. You can only hide for another month.

I just stated why I dont think they are a contender or why they will have a tough time contending (weak schedule). I think to contend for a state championship you have to ready yourselves against the best all year even if it gives you 6-7 defeats. These teams are better off than the teams that hide and come into the playoffs with 2 losses. The Roso example of coming in 28-0-0 with the boy wonder (ness) and the best goalie to come thru minnesota in a while in lee and getting laughed off the ice can't get much better. What didn't they do that year? In my opinion they didn't get tested enough with the big boys.
Look at Edina, Minnetonka, DE, Moorhead, Wayzata, EP, Jefferson, Blaine and some other teams tougher schedules and tell me they don't have a better chance contending this year based on their schedules as opposed to a team like....Brainerd.
