The sad part is that Sillwater is not one of WBL biggest rivals. We leave that to HM and the battle for Aldrich. I just wish it wasn't so one sided lately.youngblood08 wrote:Out of the Stillwater Gazette
Ponies to host Josh Gunderson Night on Thursday at the SCVRC
Published: Monday, February 1, 2010 4:17 PM CST
Stillwater graduate Josh Gunderson, a former captain of the boys' hockey team, will be honored during an on-ice presentation on Thursday prior to Stillwater's Suburban East Conference game against White Bear Lake at the St. Croix Valley Rec Center.
Gunderson passed away last March at the age of 20 while on spring break in Mexico.
During the ceremony, which will feature family, friends and former teammates, his jersey will be dedicated to his mother Liz, followed by a brief presentation about Goals of the Heart. The Stillwater Mite 3 team, which features two of Gunderson's cousins, will also take part in the ceremony, which is scheduled to take place at approximately 6:45 p.m.
The Goals of the Heart Foundation purchased four new sets of goalie equipment for the Stillwater Youth Hockey Association and also paid for all 29 families that submitted economic hardship applications to play hockey last year.
Donations to the Josh Gunderson Memorial Foundation will also be accepted during the evening in the concourse.
Former players are asked to contact XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX for additional details about the on-ice appearance. Fans attending the game are encouraged to wear red in honor of Gunderson for the game against one of Stillwater's biggest rivals.

Ummm, I don't hate them.youngblood08 wrote:Considering we play WBL 2x's every year, the games are heated and hard fought. Yes they are our BIGGEST RIVAL as of late. Besides that who doesn't consider Hill a rival, they are the team EVERYONE hates.
As for the game itself, I see WB comming out with the W and securing the #2 seed. Stillwater-Tartan-NSP will battle it out for the next 3 spots.
I think every SEC team plays every other SEC team twice.youngblood08 wrote:Considering we play WBL 2x's every year, the games are heated and hard fought. Yes they are our BIGGEST RIVAL as of late. Besides that who doesn't consider Hill a rival, they are the team EVERYONE hates.

I don't think you know what rivalry means, these two teams just don't like each other, the games are heated, and yes, it is a rivalry!BodyShots wrote:I think every SEC team plays every other SEC team twice.youngblood08 wrote:Considering we play WBL 2x's every year, the games are heated and hard fought. I can't remember the last time Stillwater was in contention for the SEC title. On the other hand, WBL and HM have battled it out for decades to see who goes to state. Thus the rivalry.

Only 1 RIVAL per team. Is that some new MSHSL rule we don't know about?
WBL and Hill play each other outside of the Sections. The rivalry is spurred from the WBL kids leaving to attend Hill. Yes there is a rivalry.
Stillwater/WBL may not have the storied history that Hill/WBL does. If you attend every game you can feel which games mean more to those involved. Seen as how this game is a determining factor in Section seeding and who could be challenging Hill for the Section title....I would say that it will be a huge game tonight.

mngophs hit the nail on the head. Of course any game against a section opponent is going to be "heated". However, White Bear's one true rival is HM.mngophs04 wrote:It seems like a lot of teams think of Hill or White Bear as their rival, while those two teams just think of each other.
Many other teams in the SEC see WBL as THEIR biggest rival (SW, MV, etc), but honestly, WB just doesn't feel that way. Yes those are important games, but it's nowhere near the status of a HM v. WB game.
Ask the players themselves. Playing Stillwater is no different than playing Flake, Moundsview, or Roseville (although Roseville used to be more intense when they challenged for the SEC title in the late 90's and early 00's). The only reason these games are a little more intense is because they play each other as youth in District 2.formerlybackofnet wrote:I don't think you know what rivalry means, these two teams just don't like each other, the games are heated, and yes, it is a rivalry!BodyShots wrote:I think every SEC team plays every other SEC team twice.youngblood08 wrote:Considering we play WBL 2x's every year, the games are heated and hard fought. If you want to be technical, I guess every team is a rival, as the definition states: one who is in pursuit of the same object as another, or strives to equal or outdo another, a competitor.

Exactly my point. Keep in mind though, that you are on a different side of the ice than me.youngblood08 wrote:Only 1 RIVAL per team. Is that some new MSHSL rule we don't know about?

It must be a one sided rivalry then. Yeah, we don't particularly like Stillwater, but then again we don't like anyone in the SEC. Its flattering to be called your BIGGEST rival, and trust me we certainly look forward to this game. But truly its Hill and no one else.Considering we play WBL 2x's every year, the games are heated and hard fought. Yes they are our BIGGEST RIVAL as of late. And as for saying that the WB student section is looking a little down, WBL fans travel better than anyone in the SEC, fact.

Hill is WBLs only rival. Yes everyone in the SEC is a rival of sorts but its not nearly the same as Hill. The students want to win every game no matter who we play but when Hill is coming up on the schedule its a different atmosphere around school. People wear more orange, talk more, more people show at that game. For the most part the general public of the school didnt really care if Stillwater was coming up or whatever. Just IMO though.

Well still 4-1 but I think if they kill of this penalty they will have a shot. Sophmore goalie is in now and playing well. Shots are 24-18 stillwater. Its a slim chance but we will see.PoniesDad45 wrote:Ponies are not out of it, especially at home. One goal in the 2nd and it's a new game.gophs16 wrote:4-1 white bear on a short handed goal.
