PPG, how much do you see the Tartan/Woodbury game being a factor with Stillwater/Tartan? as a common opponent, Woodbury cleaned up on them early and Tartan's non conference schedule and schedule is pretty weak. They also lost to MV and took Park to OT? You see any of that moving Stillwater ahead of them?
You also have the MV/NSP faceoff at the end of the season?

The disappointing aspect of these seedings is the loss of Johnson. Now who will get the privilege of knocking off Tartan in the first round this year.Pioneerprideguy wrote:I think things are starting to solidify more after last night's games.
1). HM
2). WB
3). Tartan
4). Still
5). NSP
6). MV
7). Rose
8 ). Como
9). Saints
The only real potential movement could be Tartan & Stillwater. Those two could flip flop depending how they finish. Obviously, Tartan has the tougher schedule, but right now they are the higher seed and have a slight buffer. How this plays out is significant because of the first round match up with NSP....you definately don't wanna go down that path. The semi match up with either HM or WB shouldn't matter as I don't see a whole lot of difference between these two right now. WB is playing much better and HM is solid, but hasn't progressed as much as WB has. Should be interesting....as usual.

Well don't get too choked-up... by the looks of PPG's projected seedings, it's Como that will have the privilege of knocking off HMBodyShots wrote:The disappointing aspect of these seedings is the loss of Johnson. I'm just hoping we don't face the "Saints". That would present a difficult situation for us Catholics.Spooge wrote:Well don't get too choked-up... by the looks of PPG's projected seedings, it's Como that will have the priviledge of knocking off HMBodyShots wrote:The disappointing aspect of these seedings is the loss of Johnson. Time to alert the program again PPG

There is still an opportunity for movement within the section. Tartan's schedule will show they played three highly ranked teams-HM, STA, and Mahtomedi all twice and Duluth East. Sure they have weak teams in the conference, but overall, not a terrible schedule.youngblood08 wrote:PPG, how much do you see the Tartan/Woodbury game being a factor with Stillwater/Tartan? as a common opponent, Woodbury cleaned up on them early and Tartan's non conference schedule and schedule is pretty weak. MV/NSP are similar teams but I give NSP a slight edge given how they have played against HM & STA. If there records are similiar at the end (which seems likely) then their game at the end may decide who is 5 & who is 6.
My personal opinion is that any one of 4 teams can win this section.

I just don't see how you can give Tartan the 3 seed when they lost to teams like mounds view and were handled by the top three teams in the their conference. Stillwater has a very tough non-conference schedule which could be a reason for their record not being so good. They also tied woodbury, and flake, beat cretin, and played with White Bear both games which are the top 4 teams in their conference. Tartan has 6 guaranteed wins in their conference and poor non-conference games.
I'd say the difference is that HM, STA, & Mahto have all been consistently in the top 20 (or better) of overall rankings most of the season. While the Ponies have only played two consistently top 20 teams (Tonka & BSM), and lost both of those games quite convincingly.gophs16 wrote:I just don't see how you can give Tartan the 3 seed when they lost to teams like mounds view and were handled by the top three teams in the their conference. gophs I kind of agree I do not believe that the 2,3, or 4th seed are locked up and for your info Tartan did not lose to MV they tied 2-2 still a bad tie though. Also, as far as your statement that Stillwater played with WBL it doesn't matter a loss is a loss. Tartan played with STA in fact out shot them and in some ways out played them but still lost 5-2 good teams find a way to win. Tartan could agrue that they have not played with their full team most of the year I believe only twice this year due to injury but good teams find a way even with that. It still all depends on how it plays out Tartan still plays Hill and sorry Prideguy I believe Tartan will win just because of past history tough for Hill to win both games against Tartan in season. So a win there win against Duluth East you could argue for a 2 seed. Bottom line all three teams Still, Tartan, WBL have to find a way to beat Hill as much as I hate to say section is still going through Hill they are still the champs until someone knocks them off.

I'm looking at and hoping for these two semi's:
#1 seed Hill vs #5 North St Paul
#2 WBL vs #3 Stillwater
Boy wouldn't that be an exciting night of hockey!
There's quite a bit of deep-down animosity between Hill and NSP students that hasn't had many opportunities to play out but could come boiling to the surface if this were to happen. As a Hill student, I'd say the tensions between the schools is second only to White Bear, probably because our campus is technically in NSP's "area". I think this will happen too as I have been much more impressed with NSP than Tartan this year and am thinking they will upset them.
And a White Bear-Stillwater rematch would be just the thing to sit back and enjoy after watching my Pioneers take down the Polars.
Wouldn't that one-two combo bring quite a crowd to the fairgrrounds, eh?

Too bad it will never happen. The semi's for 4AA are on two different nights.Northsider wrote:I'm looking at and hoping for these two semi's:

Before Northsider feels too foolish, the MSHSL site shows the two 4AA semis will both be played on Wednesday, March 3, with both of the 5AA semis on Tuesday, March 4. For the first time in memory, the MSHSL site also shows that the 4AA final will be at 7:00 on Friday, March 5 with the 5Aa final at 9:00

I'm on record as saying the Pioneers are in trouble. Not just because they dropped a game tonight against a decent STA team, but because this team has not developed as the season has gone on. They beat teams early in the year because they had more talent, well, I've seen that gap close as the season has gone on. Hill's power play is brutal and has been most of the year. On top of that, they are getting banged up down the stretch. I will not be shocked if they drop one of their remaining games before sections. Right now, my opinion is White Bear is the team to beat. Hopefully HM can grind it out over the next couple of weeks and get things together in sections.
Somebody log this quote for the record books. This is the first time I have read a bit of worry in PPG's comments, since I started following this forum a few years back. On top of that, he didnt' end it with a wink.Pioneerprideguy wrote:I'm on record as saying the Pioneers are in trouble. PPG.... HShockeywatcher asked me on the game thread why I felt a H-M loss would affect the sections..... It's because it shows they can be beat.. I agree with you that there needs to be concerns for my favorite private school team.... Other than being able to kick the pants off Simley, Sibley and Richfield, H-M gets in some tough dog fights...Pioneerprideguy wrote:I'm on record as saying the Pioneers are in trouble. You think come section time, Lex will switch to two strong lines and then roll the occasional third line?
WBL is still living off one line and the defense/goaltending has had issues in the third period of games as of late... I wouldn't crown WBL the favorites yet....before tonight's game, WBL has given up 5 vs MV, 5 vs FLake and 3 vs Stillwater and have had to hang on in each of the third periods for their lives...I am not sure WBL is built to play from behind.
Keep in mind H-M lost to the #1A team. They still have to be the clear favorites, BUT, yes, there has to be a tiny bit of doubt, now...
