I was only objecting to this comment: "good teams can clearly win the possession battle against them." Sure, they can - if Tonka isn't playing their best, which we saw against EP and WAY. Yet when they give 100% you see more dominating results such as games against STA, Edina, Hopkins, AHA, and Blake. It's true they are not good enough that they can sleepwalk good teams and expect to win every time, because such an effort will probably result in a loss. However, if they bring their best effort I think it's clear by now they're a step ahead of the closest competition. Of course, games aren't played on paper so they better not take anything for granted.

I never would've though that there'd be 4 Lake teams in the top ten this year. Good comeback from last year.

Nice summary. But, please notice, when you use the number 8 with either a left ( or right ) parenthesis, you get a smiley face. One needs to use brackets [] with the number 8.

(8) = smiley face;
[8] = eight, or use a space ( 8 )
Yes, I know; I copy-paste these from a word document and don't bother to go through looking for 8s next to parentheses.

I did, however, find a devious way of editing it without a space. 8)

I think Schwang's rankings are pretty valid too. We're at the point in the season where you can justify rankings in several different ways and not produce many objections. By this time of year I put a much bigger emphasis on what's been done lately. It's a way of hedging my bets and hopefully making the rankings better predictors of the future. It's a gamble at times; we'll see how it turns out. I was pleased with the results last year, though.

You do just fine, Karl. I'm just glad you give us the chance to debate them without taking it personally - cuz you shouldn't. We could have 100 different ranking systems and they would all be different.

Myself, I'm just getting jacked to see how these section tourneys unfold.

Agreed, I think alot of people underestimated the Lake this year.

If I took anything said on here personally, I wouldn't have lasted more than a week. (Not that the occasional belligerent doesn't test me, though.)

I'm pumped for sections too. MSBN and myfoxhockey better come through for me this year or I will be deprived of the most crucial part of the season. I should probably make my bracket soon, and work out those state tourney travel plans. :)

A couple of comments on the Thursday night top-10 games:

I watched the Edina-Tonka game on myfoxhockey. In the first period, I decided my low ranking of Edina had been validated; they looked like a mess. But then, in what might have been the turning point of the season, they turned it on. As I said in the “need” comment, they needed their top players to step up, and indeed it was the veterans (Taft, Everson, Jarrett, Sit) who got them back into the game. Their success was contagious, and it spread to the whole team, and by the middle of the second you knew what was going to happen. And though I have questioned Curt Giles’ tactics in the past, he deserves a lot of credit for rallying the troops last night. Most teams would have rolled over and died after that first period, but he got them to clean up their play and give a complete team effort. In both this game and the OT thriller at the end of last season, I think Giles out-coached Urick. Tonka is still in great shape, of course, and this may ease some of the pressure, but the section races in both 2AA and 6AA got closer last night.

The EP-Jefferson game was another instance of veterans stepping up when needed. After an iffy couple of weeks, Molenaar and Rau came forward to rescue the Eagles. I don’t know how far they can ride those few individuals, but now that Tonka’s been proven mortal, their odds have increased. It was a reminder that EP is still the state champion, and Jefferson lost an opportunity to put to rest some of the lingering doubt about their ability to win big games.
