I don't even think Holl is the best on his team. Class A players have zero chance. Alt, Benik, Decowski, and Herbert all have slim chances. For me it comes down to Gardiner and Bjugstad. Gardiner being hurt won't matter.

Bjugstad is the best player on this list, his father played for the U and the North Stars, he's committed to the U, he's carried this team since he was a freshman, and he's the youngest player on the list.

By the way....Alt and no Prochno or Faust? Absolutely ridiculous. This award is becoming a joke. I would have put 3 or 4 Minnetonka players on the ballot. Joe Faust has 37pts, Prochno has 35 and Alt has 9? Doesn't make any sense. They should just call it Mr. Gopher.

I will have to disagree with you on that posting
Brock Nelson is without any doubt the best player in any class a or aa
I watched him in the elites and nobody, defence or offense could stop that young man

you want to talk about hockey in a young mans blood this young man has 3 gold olympic metals and a silver in the family.

His great uncle Ginny Christian silver metalist.
His other great uncle Roger Christian and his grand father Billy won gold in the 60's, yes the CHRISTIAN bros, of CHRISTIAN BROS HOCKEY STICKS

and his uncle Dave Christian won Gold in the 1980 miracle on ice and went onto a very nice NHL career, 8)

he has carried warroad to state since the 9th grade good size 6'2 205 lbs good speed right around 73 pts on the year. :D

that also means everytime the USA won gold a member of his family was on the squad, that was before they could use pros. :o

So if that is how you are grading your pick :? you just got out done

BROCK NELSON NO: 1 PICK for MR HOCKEY :) :D
Let me start by saying that I agree 100% with everything you said. However, I understand it's useless because he is class A. It's unfortunate. The only thing wrong with your post is that he was not on the varsity team his freshman year. He played bantams and scored over 150 points that year. I was never able to understand why they didn't have him play varsity that year but they didn't. Other than that, he should win the award.

Is this some sort of joke

How does Tyson Fulton, second in points, not get picked for finalist?

If you ever watch this kid play a game he will skate his butt off from end to end all game. I watched a game on TV with Benik and the only time I saw him was when St. Francis broke it out of their defensive zone! And guess who had all of their "Coleman" camping gear set up at the red line?

I guess you have to have a WCHA ride to get a spot as a finalist.

If I was in Fultons shoes, I would snub all Minnesota Colleges and get out of this delusional state of hockey where the Gophers keep picking metro momma boys who go home every weekend and still feed off of ....

The "metro momma boys" thing should change next year with the new coach.

Rau kid.

Post by Lakeviewing »

The Rau kid needs to be at the U of M. This kid is a stud. To let him go to St Cloud, Colorado or any where than the U of M is a loss to the Gopher Nation. The older bro proved this is at CC

Next year's race looks a lot more interesting at this point:

Bahe
Heinonen
Hendrickson
Lane
Rau
Reid
Schroeder
Daly
Fleming
Marshall
Molenaar
Welinski

Obviously I missed a lot, but the point is that I don't see a clear favorite yet. Only one of these guys is committed to Minnesota, none of them to Wisco or Nodak (the last six winners committed to one of these three schools). In fact, Hendrickson and Welinski are the only other two junior skaters in the state committed at all!
I'd say Rau would be the definite early favorite. As long as he has a year like the one he's having this year. Unreal.

I would have to say the early favorite is marshall from mahtomedi. Last year, as a sophomore, he was the 2nd leading scorer in the state among defensemen, this year I believe he is first. He made the star and trib 2nd team and pioneer press first team. He was also nominated for the Herb Brooks award.

He is the only one in his peer group to make the national team as a 15 year old, 16 year old and 17 year old. He made the U.S.A. Select U-17 team and participated in the 5 nations tournament in Prievidza, Slovakia, and made the U.S.A. Select U-18 team and participated in the Ivan Hlinka Memorial tournament in Piestany, Slovakia.

Most importantly, he declined an offer from the NTDP U-17 team to stay home and play MINNESOTA HIGH SCHOOL HOCKEY.

Think there is a good chance for many of these kids to win the award this year. What it comes down to is NHL bound guys...or should i say predicted NHL players because we all know how many flops occur in the draft these days. Saying that I would go with the blaine kid just because he is gopher bound and looks to be the highest draft pick of the bunch. Would like to see them get a new system for this award. It is titled MR hockey for Minnesota high school hockey right...seems to me the best player of the year doesnt always win and thats a shame

I heard a rumor going around that if Warroad were to lose in the section title game, an anonymous donor from the Duluth area was lined up to pay for Brock and his family, along with his Warroad teammates to be sent down to the cities for the Mr. Hockey banquet anyways. I have never heard of something like this, and if its true I would think that could be a very good hint as to who is going to win come Sunday?????
