section seedings for 1AA???
This is a very confusing section after South, Century, North and probably Winona. Mayo beat Owatonna twice, Owatonna beat JM twice, and JM beat Mayo twice. Owatonna beat Farmington, Farmington beat Mayo and JM tied Farmington. anybody have any insight on how this might work out. JM has a better record with 10 wins. Owatonna is currently 7-13-4 and Mayo is 7-17 but beat Owatonna twice. I wonder if Mayo happens to beat Faribault tomorrow if that would come into play even though Faribault is in a different section.
I agree, I think.....
1-South
2-Century
3-North
9-Dodge County those 4 are locked in place
Winona has been struggling lately and really needs a win over JM on Thursday or I doubt they'll hang on to th 4 seed. Figuring the 4-8 seeds are in some order Farmington, JM, Mayo, Owatonna, and Winona here are their records against each other (none of that group has a win over the top 3).
Farmington 2-1-1
JM 2-3-1
Mayo 2-4
Owatonna 3-2-1
Winona 2-1-1
I'm pretty confident Mayo will be the 8 seed, although they're playing the best out of that group they're record is the poorest head to head and unfortunatly for them South is very good in comparison to the rest of the section. If Winona beats JM then JM is #7, that would make Winona #4, Owatonna #5, Farmington #6. Even if JM beats Winona I still think they'll be #7 but could go up to #6, also I think that would make Owatonna #4, Farmington #5, and Winona #6 or #7.

Good luck to all the teams in Section 1
I would want the 8 seed and the chance to get one more playoff game for my young guys.. and get better either Owatonna or Mayo will benefit from playing in the play in game. That game may be more valuable then the game with Century or Lakeville South will provide them but they may get upset by Dodge County it would not be the first time the wildcats got that done.
If I have some young guys getting better you may want them to play and win a playoff game the team that gets 8 seed may actually benefit from it.

That is all speculation. One thing that I know, this is one confusing year.
With that said, I doubt Owatonna can be seeded ahead of Mayo if they lost twice to Mayo. The first thing to look at is the head to head.
Remember when Century got seeded ahead of Mayo 2 years ago even though Century only had 8 wins and Mayo had like 14? Of course this year is different.
What do you do with Farmington? Mayo lost to them 2-1 but outplayed them big time. Since that time, Farmington has only beaten Waseca, M. East, and Hutch. They lost to RW, a team Mayo beat.
Winona almost loses to DC?
Big Nine standings aren't as meaningful ad they once were, except for common opponents. Too bad they got rid of the 4 point games.
If JM beats Winona, they could be 4th.
Should you throw out the 2nd Mayo-JM game played in the monsoon?
Does how you play down the stretch play into this? Teams are seeded by the coaches, but the updated power rankings will be interesting.
I look forward to the seeds just to see how the coaches voted.
With that being said, LS should win this section.
I'm hoping Mayo gets 7th so they get another crack at Century!

If I were Mayo's coach I would want the 7 th seed and play Century for two reasons. First it would be looked at as a home game for both teams with fans and such. Second the intensity would be high for both teams. Mayo lost 4-1 with empty netter last game. Mayo is finding its groove at the right time. If Mayo has a shot at an upset in first round they need to be home and this is the only way. Seedings have to be tomorrow as the play-in game would be Saturday the way I see it. And it would be a day game to allow more time for recovery as Tuesday is first section game. Mayo going to Lakeville would be bad news even if they lost some players to injury. Let's hope Mayo vs. Century . I know Century doesn't want this.

Wow what a mess this section is. If I were to seed these teams, this is where I would put them.
1 - Lakeville South (Hands down #1 and my pick to win the section)
2 - Rochester Century (Easy choice for #2. Except in the bad loss to South, they put together a very nice year)
3 - Lakeville North (1-2 in the section. The 2 losses came to the top 2 seeds)
4 - Owatonna (3-3-1 in the section. The win over Winona gives them the 4)
5 - Winona (3-2-1 in the section. A loss to JM and they could drop to 6)
6 - John Marshall (3-5-1 in the section. Some very ugly losses early, but have beat Mayo twice and recently played Century and Albert Lea tight)
7 - Farmington (3-2-1 in the section. It pains me to place them ahead of a much improved Mayo team, but head to head proves to be the difference)
8 - Mayo (2-8 in the section. This has been a dreadful team at times. Coach Grosso seems to have done something right at the end of the year.)
9 - Dodge County (0-3 in the section. Not a terrible team, but the way Mayo has finished the year, could be bombed out of the playoffs in the Pig Tail game)
I would not be surprised at all to see the 6 and 5 seed advance to the semi finals. The saddest part of the seeding in this section is Mayo will get seeded below Farmington. Farmington is 1-13 in their last 14. In all honesty, they would probably lose to Dodge County if they found themselves in the Pig Tail game. Should be fun seeding this tournament!!!

curtiscurve I don't think Owatonna can be placed that high with a record of 8-13-4. I know they beat Winona but common sense has to come into play here with Winona having a record of 17-7-1. If you are basing your seedings on pure head to head then Mayo should be in front of Owatonna as they beat them twice and they have somewhat similiar records with Owatonna having a few ties. This is going to be difficult for the coaches as different opinions of what situations are going to come into play. I think it will shake out like this.
1. South
2. Century
3. North
4. Winona
5. John Marshall
6. Farmington
7. Mayo
8. Owatonna
9. Dodge County
1. South
2. Century
3. North
4. Winona
5. John Marshall
6. Farmington
7. Mayo
8. Owatonna
9. Dodge County

Sounds like we have a lot of southern MN people with pipe dreams on this post because this is a no brainer. Lakeville South beat Lakeville North rather easily twice already this season. They destroyed Mayo and Century in games that weren't even close... They will basically have a bye to the section final game in which they will probably have back all of there injured players including the sophomore kloos who has like 21 goals in 20 games. They have a freshman with over 50 points in the Lake Conference which is amazing and an offense that averages over 5 goals a game. If they get even average goaltending they will breeze through sections!

Based on the above post the Section 1AA tournament has been cancelled. We encourage all the teams to go to the state tournament and take notes on how real hockey is played. Consider yourselves lucky you didn't need to be destroyed by one of the all time great teams in Minnesota. You should be thrilled that they are willing to represent the lowly section 1AA from way done south.
Remember, if you see any of these gods of hockey while at the tournament, bow down, kiss their ring, leave quietly without bothering them.

Are people already forgetting what Century did three years ago? Who's to say that couldn't happen again?can't skate a lick wrote:ATTENTION ALL SECTION 1AA HOCKEY TEAMSRickidy Cricket wrote:Sounds like we have a lot of southern MN people with pipe dreams on this post because this is a no brainer. That's why they play the game. But seriously, it's between the two Lakevilles and Century, I don't think Cinderella Winona will find their skate.clutterbuck22 wrote:Are people already forgetting what Century did three years ago?
